Crocodile stares down in wonder at Vivi's soft, relaxed face, her eyes closed and blue hair spread in strands over his lap. He strokes his fingers against her cheek as she dozes, unable to believe how lucky he is, to have gotten this second chance.

He is unworthy of it. He is unworthy of her — an old man who had been bitter and miserable for so long, while she is a vibrant and glorious unstoppable young woman.

And he is so, so grateful.

She stirs gently, and reflexively he freezes, but she smiles and nuzzles her face against his hand.
