Started this yesterday afternoon because I really wanted to make something new art for my favourite entry. It took last night and this morning to get the sumi ink as dark as I needed.

Or in other news, I finally watched Black Sails, predictably for anyone who ever knew me fell in love, and ever since, have been trying to do Flint’s vibe of “stoic while simultaneously looking pained, amused, exasperated and about three seconds from murderous” justice.

I wanted to draw them being kinda angsty. And I also wanted to use the cross hatching brushes I downloaded. So this happened.

Hitting the timelapse button on CSP is always very difficult for me because I become self-conscious. However I wanted to do it this time because I knew this piece would be hard to figure out, since I don't do cross hatching often, and I wanted to be able to look back on what I did right or wrong later (I often forget how I obtained the final result for a piece after I'm done with it).

I think my drawing process is a a little... obsessive? And maybe strange compared to others. I have a pathological problem with perfectionism and it makes drawing (as well as everything else in life) take longer and feel more frustrating than it needs to; I try to be methodical even when it is redundant or completely unnecessary to a piece in an attempt to avoid redoing things later down the line, which is a losing battle, since making art is a very experimental process -- trying out what works and what doesn't until you can let it rest.
