Jesus was severely scourged before He was crucified. The scourging was necessary for only by His stripes are we healed. Isaiah 53:5 The whip the Romans used for scourging was made of leather straps embedded with glass, bone and metal hooks to cut deep into His flesh. And as the whip was pulled back, the hooks would have stripped His flesh off, exposing muscle and bone. God allowed every one of those stripes to fall on His Son’s body so that you and I could be healed. Jesus carried every one of your sickness on the cross, so that we could be set free. Today, if you are afflicted by any kind of sickness, remember, Jesus took the scourging as full payment for you so that you might be HEALED.

Jesus cried, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" Matthew 27:46 Can any of you who are parents imagine abandoning your child to be beaten, mocked, scorned, and killed by your enemies – because their crimes needed to be punished? But that’s what the Father did, for you and me. Sin deserves punishment. Jesus took all of that on Himself. Jesus paid for your sins so you wouldn’t have to. He took the wrath that you deserve so you could know forgiveness and access into the Kingdom of God. He was forsaken so you could be accepted. How do you respond to this love, this great sacrifice? Have you really put your faith in Jesus Christ and what He did for you on the cross?

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:6-8 Christ died, not for people who look like they have it all together but for people who were, "powerless," "ungodly," and "sinners" This truth is tremendously freeing. I don't have to be wondering if God is going to abandon me because I failed Him. God already knows the worst about me -- and He chose to love me! God's love never fails-- delight in that statement.

Jesus sees us just the way we are. He knows our weaknesses, our failures, our deepest fears. And yet He loves us! What a loving Saviour! What a message of hope to a lost and ever-changing world! When you start to feel overwhelmed by the changes around you, take heart in the promise that Jesus remains the same through the ages, and that His love for you is everlasting. Prayer: Dear Jesus, You are our firm foundation, our Rock, and our Fortress. Thank you that you never change! You are our Saviour, our Lord, and our Friend. Amen.

All have sinned against God and fallen short of His standard. (Romans 3:23) We do not and cannot earn salvation by keeping the Old Testament Law or by simply being a good person. We will fail every time; it is in our nature to sin. It is only through God sacrificing His Son Jesus in our place, that we can acquire complete forgiveness. We can all attain this by accepting Jesus as our Saviour, and accepting that He shed His blood to atone for the sins of all who repent. Regardless of what sins we have committed against God, He offers this gift to each of us. John 3:17 tells us that Jesus didn’t come to condemn us but to save us.
