Starting the initial planning for the 2019 riding season. Really looking forward to seeing other parts of Canada on this second cross-Canada trek.

This time I’ll be going through Labrador, Newfoundland and trying to incorporate elements of the TCAT (Trans-Canada Adventure Trail). Like the last time I rode across Canada in 2017, there is a limited amount of time and I was trying to find a way to not miss the Trans-Labrador Highway and ‘The Rock’ again, though they are a long journey in and of themselves. So….

I decided to cut off a few days of riding by taking advantage of an Air Canada program of Fly Your Bike. The initial plan is to fly my Africa Twin to Montréal and leave from there to the East and Maritimes. That will save several days of riding across the prairies, give me a few days in Montréal to be a tourist, and then put me right on the back door of the Trans-Labrador Highway. The shipping program seems like a reasonable cost and will give me the necessary time to do more exploring without marathon distance riding across the prairies to get there.

Incorporating some gravel travel days and the TCAT may be a challenge as the distances are still vast but I’ll definitely do some backroads riding to see new parts of the country.

The trip still will be about 10,000 kilometres in roughly three to four weeks of riding. So, another epic journey is in the making. Can’t wait for spring and the new riding season.

To celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday and break in my new Honda Africa Twin CRF1000L motorcycle, I’ll be riding from Calgary to PEI, back to Calgary (rest) to Telegraph Creek, and possibly to the Arctic Ocean (Dempster Highway – or at least into the NWT).

Suddenly, I'm graduating from college in four months.

With only four months left of my college journalism career, I can finally say I have begun to find my niche, what kind of writer I'm going to be. The funny thing is, I've always had this idea since high school (hell, since grade school if I'm thinking back correctly), but I was given the chance to hone my abilities and really test the waters.

Now, my excitement has been piqued and I'm ready for this next step. In four short months, I will have graduated from my program and for the first time, I will not be fully saddled with any sort of major responsibility. I don't have school to get back to, I won't have a career to start yet, so what is there for a 22 year old college grad to do?

Travel. And travel I shall do.

I'm very excited for what's to come, because there's this healthy blend of some brand new experiences, and a nostalgic manner in what I want to do.

I have recently been taken on as an intern/freelance reporter with Music Vice Magazine, which was a dream come true, because that is truly my labour of love. Since I was young, anything and everything about music has caught me. Not only the tunes themselves, but the raw emotion behind making music, the mechanics of it, the way it makes other people feel. There's little better than getting the chance to talk to someone about something they're creating, because you get to see them light up. Ask someone about their job, paying bills, menial tasks, there is a sort of deadness in their eyes (unless they're into that sort of thing, that is). But ask someone about something they made from virtually nothing, from thin air - there is unbridled passion and excitement. And I get the opportunity to see that in who I talk to. Better yet, that's MY job. And it's my job to get the rest of the general public to see this excitement and hopefully get them excited too. Because isn't that what creation is about?

So, my major project is a blend between my job and my own personal want/need to see more.

I have grown up crossing Canada. But, finally landing in Toronto, this is the farthest east I have ever been. I want to head out to the east coast, start from there, and travel across to the west coast. While doing so, not only am I looking out for new experiences and discovering more of my country, but I want to find those little foxholes of clubs, pubs, bars, and find those musicians plugging away in these places. I want to learn about as many people as possible, and listen to as many stories as I possibly can. I want to know what it's like for an aspiring musician to make music in places no one would generally expect. Because in a place like Toronto, it's so easy to get swept up and stay here. But I want to see what there is in all these different places. Furthermore, I want to give artists the chance to really talk about their craft, what makes them passionate.

I'm turning 22, I'm graduating college, and I'm still who I was when I was 14 - just a music-loving girl, wanting to hear everyone's story and meet a couple bands.

And I couldn't be more excited.

East-bound and Down....

Packing up for tomorrows road trip east. Alberta to New Brunswick by Monday. Happy Easter? lol. Stopping in Ottawa on Saturday to surprise M's mom.... in his words... "She's gonna be so happy, she's gonna have a coronary!" ... Gee, I sure hope not :S lol.

Anyway off to bed early tonight.

PS: We have enough snacks to feed a small army, I'm sure we'll have lots left for our drive back out here in June!
