Cross attributed to a woman, Mabel, who remarried believing her husband dead in The Crusades - who eventually returned, killing his 'replacement'. She had to do penance, walking to this cross barefoot. Original husband then killed in a fight... The cross became known as Mab's Cross owing to her penance.
