“Hey Doc, does it feel like the whole place is shakin’ to you?”
Facilier turned at the sound of Oogie’s voice, and just then, a shudder from beneath the floor caused him to stumble, using his cane to keep his balance. “That answer your question?” he called back, trying to straighten up. “Guess that’s our cue to leave. Maleficent must’ve found His Majesty and got just a little too mad about the whole thing to think about us!”
“I wanted to turn that bird into a stew!” Another even stronger quake nearly toppled the pear-shaped boogieman. “...But I--I’m sure I’ll get another chance! Let’s beat it, Doc!”
Facilier reached into his pocket and retrieved a small pouch of purple dust. “Get your burlap butt over here before the whole place comes down on our heads!” he called to Oogie, waiting until he’d gotten close enough to take the two of them back to their own team’s stronghold.
Curses! Shen looked on in disbelief as the Tyrannical Alliance’s stronghold began to crumble around him. Admittedly, he wasn’t quite sure how he was going to get out of this one alive. If he could find a window or get to a balcony, he could fly off, and perhaps he could reach one in time if he started running immediately, and yet--there were two of the Kingdom of Skulls’ most obnoxious members, trying to make their own escape.
Remembering how much trouble he’d had with them before, especially during the battle that had been put on hold by the imminent collapse of the building...he momentarily forgot even self-preservation and sent a hail of his signature feather-knives at the two fleeing villains.
. . .
Oogie opened his “eyes” and looked around, seeing that they’d made it to the interior of the Kingdom of Skulls stronghold. “HA!” He cheered. “It worked, Doc! ...Huh?” Looking down, he saw a few small piles of bugs forming, leaking out from a few tears in his burlap suit. “Hey, y’all get back in there!” He commanded them, and they started crawling back up his body and back into the tears, as a few spiders got to work on sewing them shut.
“Haah!” Facilier exclaimed in surprise. Turning to see what the matter was, Oogie saw that two of the bird’s feather-knives were embedded in his shoulder and upper chest. “Shhh...Guess I should’a used that stuff ‘bout a second earlier…Oh no…”
“N-now, don’t’cha worry, Doc,” Oogie replied, raising his digitless hands. “Yzma’ll just--...Where is that old hag, anyway?”
“...Must be busy with the King…”
“Well...we don’t need ‘er! I got everything ya need right here!” He pointed to his body.
“...Y--your bugs?”
“Don’t gimme that look!” Oogie put his hands on his hips. “They know how to sew and everything!”
“Burlap ain’t skin, Oog--”
“You want help, or do ya just wanna stand here and bleed?”
“...Help…”
“That’s more like it!” Oogie nudged him against the wall. “You just sit down now, I’ll take care of it.” He pointed his arms at both knives. “Ants!” At his command, a small swarm of ants crawled out of his mouth and onto Facilier by crossing over Oogie’s arms.
“Ants?”
Oogie laughed. “You better not be allergic!”
The ants all bit down at once. “GAH! What the hell are you--?!” Facilier exclaimed, but in the next moment, he noticed that a feeling of numbness was creeping over the areas the knives were stuck into. “Wait…”
Oogie laughed. “Told ya I knew what I was doin’!” The ants began prying the blades out, all of them working together to remove the two knives. Those animal factoids about ants being absurdly strong must’ve had some truth to them, because they’d soon removed both and tossed them aside onto the floor. They then retreated back into Oogie’s body. “Spiders, patch him up!” This time, a group of spiders crawled out of his mouth and began weaving spider-silk threads through the edges of the wounds and over top. The sticky nature of the silk kept the makeshift bandages quite firmly in place.
“...Well...color me impressed, Oogie,” Facilier remarked. “Didn’t think ya had medic work in ya.”
“Next time, don’t doubt me!” Oogie replied irritably. “I’m a lot smarter than I look, y’know! I got over a thousand shared brains in here!”
Yeah, and they’re all bug-sized…
“Anyway…” Oogie put a hand on Facilier’s shoulder. “You feelin’ alright now?”
“...Yeah, guess so,” He replied. “Um...thanks, Oogie.”
“Hey, don’t sweat it! We’re friends and all, right? Friends don’t leave each other with leaks, right?”
“...Friends…?”
“Well sure! With as often as we team up and all--” Oogie paused. “...Wait...I didn’t just remind ya of those creeps who wanted your soul, did I?”
“No...no, you’re different…”
“Good!” Oogie laughed a bit once more. “Wouldn’t want to scare ya too bad, since we’re friends.”
Friends…
He liked how that sounded. They both did, in fact.
Judges 12:3 (ESV) -
And when I saw that you would not save me, I took my life in my hand and crossed over against the Ammonites, and the LORD gave them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me this day to fight against me?”
