Today was really bittersweet. Today I was lucky enough to get my 1st dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. While I am not a healthcare worker by trade, this past year I became one. Working alongside all of our frontline heroes, I have been able to put my information organizational skills to great use as a medical secretary at Crouse these last few months (while I am earning my Master's in Library Science). I am so glad that I answered the call to help however I could, even though it has been extremely difficult, heartbreaking, and scary at times. I and others have put our health on the line for others, even though this is not my intended career; nevertheless it has been worth it. Today I answered that call again by receiving my COVID-19 vaccine. I hope everyone who sees this will be inspired to do the same and think of others during this difficult time. I know all of this is scary and so much is unknown, but we have to trust science and each other. Speaking as a now healthcare worker and as someone whose immediate family is currently fighting this virus, please get vaccinated once you are eligible. This is how we protect ourselves and each other. Be responsible. Wear your mask. Wash your hands. Get the vaccine.
