Balthazar is capable of embracing it. Crowley is terrified.

Crowley rebuffs him, even mocks him. He can't take it seriously.

Balthazar is heartbroken but he accepts it.

Then Castiel kills Balthazar.

Now think about Crowley's "I deserve to be loved" speech. Think about his regrets, and his anguish. Someone loved him and he couldn't accept it.
