Fandom History - Gravity Falls - October 1st

In the distant year of 2013 after the season one finale of Gravity Falls aired, fans discovered a mysterious website called Search For the Blind Eye, it had a gif of Bill, ominous background music from the series, and a countdown timer to October 1st.

The HTML code of the site was regularly updated with what ended up being genuine teases about content in season 2 of the series.

When the countdown timer ended on October 1st 2013, the site updated to add cats to the gif of Bill, and a new page with part of a short story, eventually the cats were removed from the gif, and the short story was given one additional page, but afterwards the story WAS NEVER FINISHED.

The html code had some more tease updates for a short while, then the site was abandoned and is now completely gone unfournately.

When asked during an AMA Alex Hirsch said he had no idea who ran the site, and hoped cat gifs would be added on October 1st (which they were, to align with what he said, as a joke? We don’t know.)

To this day we have NO CLUE ON WHO RAN THIS WEBSITE. It was barely ever addressed by Hirsch aside from his AMA, but it contained REAL information about season 2 at times...SO WHO RAN IT? AND WHY DID IT SUDDENLY STOP RECIVING UPDATES WHEN THE MOST FANDOM EYES WERE ON IT AFTER OCTOBER 1ST?!

I also have the personal question of HOW DID THE FANDOM FIND THE PAGE TO BEGIN WITH? Was it that MysteryofGravityFalls account, which is confirmed to NOT be run by someone on the show staff. The cipher at the end of s1 was SEARCH FOR THE BLIND EYE, so really this must’ve been genuine, but nobody on the series staff ever came out about it.
