He's humming a small song as he walks between the trees of the forest, looking for things. Berries in specific. He needs them to make berry-bread. Though really it's a wonder how he's managed to find anything as the urge to climb trees strikes him every couple of steps, until he faceplants into his mothers backside.

He wriggled away only slightly to frown at her, deciding on the best word choice he had. He bites back a couple of snarkier replies before sighing and resting against her.

The leaves were so much greener now.
Legolas entered the forest with a feeling of wonder. These woods had been dark for over a thousand years, for all of his life; he had spent much of that life fighting back the evil that sought to overtake the Woodland Realm. In the later years, he had nearly lost hope that such an evil would ever fade; all their efforts seemed in vain. Such a grim and shadowed elf he had been then, so worn down by duty. So much had changed. Now his step was light, and the forest was alive again.
Eryn Lasgalen. The name his father and Lord Celeborn had chosen for his homeland brought Legolas joy. The Wood of Greenleaves. His own name meant Greenleaf, and such harmony between himself and his homeland could only be a blessing. It also made him miss his father all the more. He had heard, afterwards, of the fighting that had occurred here before the fall of Barad-dur, and though he grieved for the lives lost, he could not be prouder of his father and their people for having victory.
Part of him had wanted to rush home immediately, but he had a duty and a love to Aragorn to uphold, to stay for his coronation and his wedding, and anyway his heart had been reluctant to leave the Fellowship behind. And he had extracted a promise from Gimli that they would see the wonders of Fangorn together before journeying home. Thus it was some months now since the great victory, and he had just said his goodbyes to Gimli; now he was close at last to seeing his people again, and his heart sang.
He walked deeper into the forest, listening to the birdsong. This was his home as it should always have been: he should have grown up playing in these woods, not fighting for their safety. But the past mattered not; what mattered was only that he was here now, alive and well, knowing that he had helped restore light to the world. He thought of his father, of his pride: I've done you well after all, Adar, if you will forgive me for the long absence. He thought of his mother, too, and wondered what she would say if she could see him now. Would she be proud of what he had become? It was impossible for him to know what manner of son she would have wanted, but he could only hope that he fit the part.
