Another Roommate

The summer had been a brutal one. Who knew that instead of spending time with his friends at the beach, Sora would be cooped up in his bedroom enjoying the air conditioning?

It was mid day though. The sun was beaming down on the pavement and the sand at the seaside and although the waves looked sparkly and cool from his window, the thought of stepping outside onto sizzling concrete gave him second thoughts.

That's when he heard a knock at the door.

Confused, Sora hopped up from his bed, hurried downstairs, and unlocked the front door, slowly opening it to reveal-

"Kraehe?... What- what do you want?..."

despite the fact that he rarely talked about his family, chilchuck took pride in his kids. and although he didn't and probably never would understand why his wife left in the end, he would never have it in his heart to blame her for it. he had been able to be there for his daughters as they were growing up, and he was still allowed to keep up contact with them. that was the most important thing for him.

and although they were all three independent now and lived their own lives, he still couldn't help but be a bit weak when it came to children.

while he hadn't necessarily meant to pay much attention to this particular event, by the water close to the spy fish stalls was a tall-man girl who was obviously still a child despite her being well taller than chilchuck himself was. her big black curly hair immediately made him think of flertom, and the obviously saddened expression on her face made that fact sting even further.

"s'cuse me," he let his presence be known as he walked up to her side. "i noticed you've just been standing here for a while. are you lost?"

it was an ordinary afternoon some hours later than what a middle school student should otherwise be expected to be off when amane entered the front door at last. in his arms, he carried an almost comically large object compared to his own small frame. it was wrapped up for protection, but despite the eagerness in his steps, it was obvious that he knew to be careful with it.

after carelessly stepping out of his shoes without the usage of hands and leaving them be in the entryway, the boy announced his presence into the house. "rue-oneesan, you'll never guess what the old guy from the thrift store got me today!" in many ways, it was difficult for a 13 year old boy to be away from his family, but his roommate had made the situation much easier to deal with. it was almost like having a sibling. amane peeked into the living room to find her there.

٠ ࣪⭑ It took some time for Cucumber to get his bearings in the massive facility. However, he always remembered that for every problem that existed, there was a solution to be found. While his friends were in danger, he would find a solution no matter what.

After some investigating, he realized that all of the Echoes were being kept in a place called the Hyaline Wing. He managed to remain in hiding while he copied a key from one of the scientists before booking it to the cells.

He walked quietly and slowly, using the blanket to cover himself from the surveillance cameras. Pretty much every cell was empty (with some even having some damage inside), but it wasn't long before he found a familiar face.

" R-Rue!? I-I mean! Uh... K-Kraehe? " Cucumber choked on his words. " S-sorry! I... I wasn't expecting to see you. " He walked to the barrier, using the blanket to hide himself while Rue could see him perfectly. Ears kept focused on her. " Are... are you okay? Do you need help? "
