talk to me about how hallucifer ISN'T lucifer and instead is a physical manifestation of sam's guilt. also about how samifer is a 10000% consensual ship. I'm seeing too much negativity on my dash :c
Did you mean like how Hallucifer spends like 90% of the time making Sam feel guilty because of how much Sam wants him/ liked being his vessel/ is attached to the hallucination because he misses the real Lucifer?!
Because Hallucifer doesn’t make sense as memories. Because when Cas ‘shifts’ Sam’s suffering onto himself, it doesn’t put the wall back up. Sam still remembers Hell, yet suddenly he’s fine. No, it’s because what Cas removes is the self-depreciating, guilt-ridden, paranoid way Hell makes you view things, twisting good things into bad until you feel like crap, hence why Cas goes crazy in his own way.
Because totally the whole thing about season 5 is the connection between Sam and Lucifer is a two-way thing. Lucifer puts so much emphasis on this: that they were made for each other, rather than that Sam was just made for him. He doesn’t tell Sam he has to do this, but that they have to, together. And, of course, the fact that Lucifer makes so much effort to tell Sam that, though obviously they’re working for what Lucifer wants, he wants Sam to get what he wants too. Basically the whole of season 5 is Lucifer wanting Sam to work with him for a mutual cause and reason, as a partner, not a tool.
So hey, Hell is a place that confronts people with their worst thoughts and fears, right?! So what better way to torture poor Sammy than to conjure up an image of the one being who understands him and connects with him, and twist it to act like it never really cared?! It’s a typical human state of paranoia, especially with how many beings have deceived or tricked Sam before, to convince himself that Lucifer was just stringing him along, too. Hallucifer even says at one point “Sam is very suggestible”. Of course, self-depreciating Sam would torture himself like this, making himself believe he’s just a susceptible idiot who fell from Lucifer’s manipulation. Hell plucked all these worries right out of his mind and threw them at him… And Sam saved the freaking world! Low self-esteem or not, that can’t be denied. Sam won! So, of course, hell jumped right on Sam’s mind to try and stop him feeling good about that, instead making out that he was a gullible little idiot that was tricked by Lucifer who was always really just laughing at him. What better way to torture Sam that to invalidate his victory and the best things about him? We saw it when Dean was in hell, that he held on for a massive 30 years is made irrelevant, and instead the emphasis is put on “you only lasted 30 years and not more”. Hell likes to make you feel like shit so you can’t see your achievements, and can only focus on your fears and worries and the things to hate about yourself.
And before someone pops up and says “well what if it is just the real Lucifer and he was tricking Sam all along?!”, let me explain you a thing. Sam thinks basically next to nothing about himself. He considers himself more or less worthless. Lucifer in season 5 does nothing but tell him that he’s special and important to him, Hell makes out that he’s nothing more than a tool. Real Lucifer, of course, literally fell because he hated the mindless following of God’s (in his opinion) unreasonable order in Heaven. Lucifer hates susceptible people, that’s like his whole thing: “because I had a mind of my own”. And Sam does too, which is why Lucifer has so much respect for him, with the way he didn’t want to go into the family business, is capable of sympathising with ‘evil’, etc. With their shared open-mindedness, Lucifer wanted them to go set the world right. Lucifer basically confided in Sam, talking about Michael and his Father and really personal stuff. Too personal to bring up just to manipulate someone. And Sam could see Lucifer’s point of view, and logically, he could understand where he was coming from. But hell twists things, would make Sam forget his logic and have him believe that he was just the fool who fell for it.
Basically, Lucifer is like “I respect you and care about you, Sam, and I trust you to think for yourself and come to understand my point of view so we can work together”.
So Hell twists that into Hallucifer who’s like “I’m gonna make you feel paranoid and guilty until you believe that you’re just the gullible idiot Lucifer manipulated and that Lucifer never really cared”.
But now Sam’s had ‘hell-vision’ removed, he hopefully can see clearly the real Lucifer, who would take him by the shoulders and remind him that he is special and clever and independent and logical and that’s why Lucifer loves him 。^‿^。
….you wanted a crazed rant, right?
