So I saw someone knight and crusade posting, and it was disheartening to see. I wanted to respond at first with an angry and pithy comment but I stopped myself and took a step back to consider what I would be doing there. Instead of that path I wrote the following, and am sharing it here for folks to be able to read.
"You have been told of us the Saracen
How we hold a vast wealth and holy lands
All to seize at the pope's beck, only then
But you must take on the risks, not his hands
To feed thy anger thy gave a programme
From these stories come hate's warm sensation
Now while a warrior I scarcely am
I put forth this, my evaluation
The Crusades may come the crusades may ride
Yet it is their goals they shall fail to reach
In the end to them the clergy had lied
Not for victory, for peace, I beseech
Are we peoples not richer together
Despite contrasts is this path not better?"
