Which work of yours have you reread the most?
Definitely Scars and Stitches (AO3), both as a whole and individual chapters. I think it contains some of my best writing and is definitely the best series I've written (from a technical perspective). I enjoy revisiting it because I love the characters, too.
Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
I can't choose just one! But one of my favorites is this exchange between Daryl and Rick while they're out repairing fences on the Greene farm.
Rick ran a hand through his hair. “Morgan’s my responsibility. I want to look after her as if she’s my own family. I made a promise to keep her safe.”
Daryl restrained a surge of possessive fury. He kept you safe; that was his job, not Rick’s. Daryl was the one who looked after you after the attack on the camp, at the CDC, here at the farm. Didn’t matter what Rick or anyone else thought, Daryl would keep you safe if it killed him.
He channeled his rage into hammering nails.
Rick put his hand on Daryl’s shoulder, and even though Daryl flinched, Rick didn’t let go. Daryl glared at him.
The deputy gave Daryl a small smile. “Look, all I’m saying is it’s good. You and her. I think you will make each other happy. And I trust you to take care of her. You’re more than good enough to handle it.”
Daryl was trembling, for fuck’s sake. He dropped his hammer and squinted at Rick, unable to say anything.
Rick never broke eye contact. “I’d be lost without Lori and Carl. When you’re ready to tell Morgan how you feel, just know you have my support.”
Daryl felt like an exposed nerve, and he blinked away tears, trying to hide his face from the other man. He mumbled, “What makes you think she wants me like that?”
“Brother when she’s with you, her face lights up like you wouldn’t believe. You’re telling me you don’t see it?”
Daryl shook his head, staring at the ground.
“Look closer next time.”
