I knew the time was coming, but I had no idea how soon. Earlier today, my lovely little Cruskit passed away in his sleep, cuddled up in his hammock with his best friend, Tyrion. He was two years old. Cruskit has always been a healthy and strong rat. So when we suddenly noticed he was frail and weak one day, it seemed like he had changed overnight. Such is the heart breaking reality of rats - their little lives move so fast that they can be here one moment and gone the next. And that's the way that it was with our Cruskit. We lived a good life together and had many happy memories. From the way he used to shove his head in his plastic log when we pet him, and the way he struggled when we held him, to the way he used to love sunflower seeds, we adored everything about him. His mannerisms always made us laugh and he was a joy to have around. I don't know what it was that took him from us - whether it was a pituitary tumour or sudden onset pneumonia or just old age - but I am just glad that he passed peacefully and willingly. I had noticed that we was wobbly on his feet last night and took the time to cuddle him and get one last photo (top left), and this morning before work I gave him a pat goodbye. When Rekahn got home from work this afternoon, he found him lying still, exactly where I'd left him. He's been gone at least a couple of hours. Cruskit, we will miss you so much. Thank you for blessing our lives with your adorable little soul. I hope you cross peacefully across the Rainbow Bridge to join all the others - Splinter, Ramekin, Biscuit and Coconut. Tyrion will miss you dearly, but I feel that he will follow you soon enough. We will look after him for you until then. Rest easy, my sweet boy. Until we meet again. 💔🐀🌈 #cruskitrat #loverat #resteasy #rainbowbridge #iloveyou #always
