Tonight the New Moon hits it's peak, and I begin my 24-hour fasting to acknowledge it, and to remind myself that I have obligations to myself; to continue past resolutions, and to keep up with the new one I make today. My next 24-hours will be spent mostly in meditation, because I feel upset with myself for not holding to last month's resolution, and I think if I spend enough time thinking about it, I will remember this time.
I find this moon to have too many names, so I have listed three in bold that apply to what's happening in my life right now.
The snow is melting now at a rapid pace during the day, and crusting at night when it freezes. I accidentally sunk up to my knees last night, next to the shed where water falling off the roof kept the snow more moist than anywhere else in the yard. Anywhere else, one could walk atop the solid crust without problem. Because of this little accident, I'm going to be a lot more careful walking around in the snow, now.
Sap Moon
An opportunity opened up to me a few days ago to go out to a friend's family farm and burn some wood I helped stack over the summer in the sugar shack. We were going to run around in the snow, collecting buckets the old-fashioned way to make some Maple Syrup and Maple Candy. I am not sure if this opportunity is still open or not, because of some unexpected visitors, but if situation permits, we will leave on Wednesday.
Chaste Moon
As the snow melts and life is reborn through Spring. In this way, the Earth is like a child, and this is why, I have read, this moon is called the Chaste Moon. Chastity is not only refraining form sexual misconduct, but also abstainment from intoxicants (alcohol, drugs), and not giving in to hostility and/or temptation. This will be a part of my resolution this moon. I try to practice this kind of attitude all the time, but temptation tends to get the better of me a lot of the time. So this month I will be even more forceful in my resistance to temptation, and stick to what I need, and not what I want.
Resolution: Resist Temptation.
