Forest Golem Craig x Dryad Lygia

I did ramble a bit about the idea behind this in a previous post, but - dryads are connected to their trees, yes? I wanted to play with the concept of Lygia being connected to Craig somehow in this setting, so I wanted to depict her clinging to him as if he is her anchor and shield - her tree, in a way -, if that makes sense. 🙂

I've been meaning to study more classic paintings for inspiration, and the inspiration for this came from Hylas and the Nymphs by John William Waterhouse. I wanted to evoke a similar feeling of mystique...

I am pretty proud of this, but now I am afraid I'll never draw anything good anymore asdfgh.

I do have a goal to draw every costume of Craig's at some point.

Vacation! ☀️⛱️ Inspired by the RE: Windup side story.

It had been a while since I last painted a background. 😅 I'm happy with how it turned out.

I'm a bit exhausted from ArtFight, so I think I will quit early...? We still have one week left, so maybe after a little rest, I'll be able to throw a few more attacks... But I managed to doodle 45 attacks, so I'm happy. 💖This year was fun, and I think I drew more than my first two years combined, so yay!

Anyway, today I doodled a small Craig x Lygia for myself.

I originally sketched this after I cleared the Temple of Fire dungeon back in March, and finally had time to clean it. 💖 This was my reaction when he said that line... 🥰

A while back, my hand slipped and I made a sprite sheet for Lygia, and I JUST had to make a screenshot edit. =D The hair was referenced from existing characters (Xiaoman for the bangs, Vinette for the back) but I'm still super proud of this haha.

I'm a bit proud of the last one. 😁 I was inspired by Dirk and Princess Daphne from Dragon's Lair. Because Craig slayed the Archfiend, but where's the beautiful* damsel in distress for him to rescue? >:0

* "Beautiful" is debatable. 😅

I started doodling Dryad Lygia and Forest Golem Craig - because I designed that costume for her especifically to go along with Craig - and I kinda had a whole AU idea. 😭

In this AU, Lygia would be a dryad, and Craig would be a traveler who meets her by chance. Dryads don't approach humans normally - but, for some reason, she decided to approach him (maybe he was injured, and she nursed him back to health?). Over the course of a few months, they continue seeing each other and fall in love.

However, as a dryad, Lygia can't get far from her tree - and as such she cannot go where Craig goes, and she doesn't want to take away his freedom and spirit him away to the forest. So, it becomes a bit of an impossible romance.

Well, Craig offers to become her tree - basically she transfers the bond she had with her tree onto a bond with him, enabling her to leave the forest but ultimately linking her life to his (meaning that if he dies, she will die alongside him - and staying away from him too long would weaken her).

So, Forest Golem Craig was born. I'm thinking that as result of the bonding, parts of his body became bark/tree-like, maybe...? You really can't tell from the armor.
