SS MOVING ON Video Analysis
I don’t know if anyone has talked about this yet so I’m going to. *Spoilers Ahead*
The reason they went to Patton’s room was so Thomas could reminisce about good times in the past, have a better view of the present, and, in turn, have a more positive outlook for the future. This entire plan flopped though because Thomas ended up not wanting to leave the past and all the happiness that it held.
Now the thing I want to talk about:
Patton tried to warn them this would happen!
5:22 “Ohh, what if looking at the past makes him feel kind of iffy about the present?”
Once again, the only one to acknowledge the fact that Patton spoke is Virgil, but when Logan is stating his fact, he only looks back to Virgil (and Thomas) as though he’s the only one who gave an opinion, and ignores Patton’s attempt to help once again.
It once again shows that Patton is a lot smarter than he acts, and has more to offer than the logical and creative sides give him credit for. As the heart, this is Patton’s territory after all as the source of emotions. Patton of all the sides would know EXACTLY how nostalgia would effect Thomas.
Sure, Virgil could smell the incoming cringe from a mile away, and, as he admitted in the Q&A video, reminds Thomas of it often.
Sure, Logan goes to the memories for facts and knowledge and inspiration, as is probably truly shown by the learning corner of Patton’s room.
And sure, Roman wants to reminisce in old plays seen and played in, and worlds created in the past, but with out the emotional ties to these things. Without Patton. Alot of it would be long forgotten.
Without Patton, without emotions, Thomas wouldn’t be so attached to these things. He wouldn’t have anything to be nostalgic about.
Thomas: “You’re at the core of a lot of my feelings.”
Patton: “I’m at the core of a lot of your ‘feelings.’”
True, without Patton, Thomas wouldn’t be feeling his sadness, but he also wouldn’t know what happiness is because he would never have felt it period.
Patton KNOWS what the nostalgia will do to Thomas, and he tries to warn them a second time with:
“But seriously, my room is kind of a mess, 'I’m not sure this is a good idea.’”
but is once again ignored, and this time even has his motives questioned by Logan’s “Patton, don’t you want to help Thomas move on?”
Patton looked crushed after Logan asked this, but still tried again
“Yes, of course I would love that, but-”
“Great, then it’s decided.”
*Patton’s entire being deflates* “Okay, then.”
He wasn’t even allowed to finish his statement this time and gave up, making his earlier questioning of if things can get better all the more heart breaking because I really don’t think he’s entirely talking about Thomas at that point. This was even shown in Accepting Anxiety Pt. 2 when he randomly yelled his idea followed by “I’m sorry was I too loud? I was a afraid I wouldn’t get another chance to speak, and wanted to get my thoughts out before I forgot.”
The poor heart has been beaten and abused into submission, and he’s obviously tired of even trying. He’s done nothing but try to be happy pretend nothing is wrong, but he just can’t anymore. He’s breaking.
Virgil’s room enhances anxiety, and as Patton tried to warn, his room enhances emotions.
Anxiety stems from fear. Fear is one of the core instinctual emotions. The longer Virgil was in Patton’s room, the more anxious he got to the point of his voice changing. He’s so closely linked to an emotion that I believe he could sense the exact moments Patton started completely breaking because he very suddenly snapped the folder he was filtering through shut before looking truly scared.
Roman, as Creativity, holds a lot of emotions himself. One’s emotional state tends to effect their creativity. Their muse tends to shift depending on their emotional well being. Roman grew stronger the more Thomas needed to escape, but the entire video, the more of a mess Thomas’s emotions became, the more of a mess Roman became.
And if everyone else is in turmoil, well there goes Logan’s Yorks Dodson curve, because Thomas certaintly can’t focus.
If Patton breaks, everyone else is going down with him.
He knows this. He tries to warn everyone of this. And he looks rather smug when Logan finally realises it too.
Lo: “Thomas you’re a habitual worrier.”
Ro: “Yes, I thought we established that.”
Patton: *face so full of 'I told you so’* “Is that a bad thing for my room, Logan?”
He was probably hoping he’d finally be acknowleged, but after Logan just says what he was basically trying to say, and then blaming him for the whole ordeal that he was trying to prevent in the first place, well
He breaks.
Lo: “All of this because Patton can’t let go of one person!”
Patton: “Logan can you stop.”
Lo: *shocked*
Patton: “Please.”
This part was already heart breaking, and I wanted nothing more than to pull him out of the screen and just hug him, but wen I rewatched the video for what was probably the third time, and collected all of this, my heart broke right along with him.
I reblogged someone who pointed out that part of this was because Logan was disrespecting him in his own home, and while that certaintly doesn’t help, it’s definitely not the only thing.
Patton tried being happy, he tried cheering Thomas on, he tried contributing to solutions, he tried to help, he tried to warn them, and I think he just couldn’t try anymore.
“Logan can you stop.” …“I tried to warn you.”
“Please.” “Not here. I can’t take anymore.
And I really don’t think he could, but Logan, as he continues to claim and claimed once again at the beginning of the video, doesn’t do feelings. He doesn’t seem to even have an basic understanding of feelings as a concept so with that, he sinks out in a huff, and leaves Patton looking completely heartbroken.
He tries to speak, but the only one to ever listen is Virgil. Even as he stands there defeated, Virgil looks so sad for him, but Roman just hops to the fifth season of Lost, further ignoring the already hurt heart.
(Which makes me think of a Roman theory that I’ll probably post with his room which I prophecies to be the next room with how much of a mess he was in this video)
That concludes my analysis. It is currently 1:18 AM, and I may have over thought this, but it was midnight and it broke my heart to see him like this so heartbreak+late hour=theories. Thoughts?
Ive had a single thought since the episode
Patton sad and alone in his room, feeling all of the fuzzy lovey romantic feelings but not joining in the convo in person cause he doesn't want to upset anyone
I fixed it
Ko-fi
Just a couple snaps of a wip im working on that i dont know if ill ever finish.
Can anyone guess whats going on? Without looking at the tags
