Being Married To Norman Bates Headcanons

• This man, as stated before is SOFT. He absolutely adores any and all domestic moments.

• Working together. You insist that you help around the hotel, despite him saying you don't have to. The two of you often cook meals together and clean together! They're very simple moments but they make you both happy nonetheless.

• Mother. It's no secret Mother doesn't like you all that much. She has tried to attack you a couple of times but Norman somehow manages to snap himself out of it before anything bad happens. Norman is very stubborn when it comes to you and after a while Mother eventually learns to tolerate you. When she comes out though, it's best to hide until Norman is back again.

• Cleaning him up. After Mother leaves there's no doubt going to be a mess left behind. The best you can do for him is help clean him up and give him positive affirmations that you still love him despite what happened.

• Ask and you shall receive. Want breakfast in bed? Bam, done. Want that creepy guy who was hitting on you gone? Norman was planning on getting rid of him anyways! He just wants you to be happy!

• You're not leaving. Not that you'd want to, but honestly don't even consider it. Norman is pretty attentive when it comes to you and he can basically read you like a book. He's sure to freak out. He just loves you so much! You make him so happy!

• Overall you have a very sweet relationship that'll last forever <3

No worries! I don’t believe you have. Excuse my absence I’ve been caught up with school.Norman doesn’t like to leave you alone…

He knows it’s strange of him, so he doesn’t mention it at first. He just lingers around you as much as he can, twiddling his thumbs, making sure you’re alright. Often it’s just him sitting in the same room as you.

Eventually it comes out that he’s worried about you. The moment you’re out of eyes-shot his mind runs and runs about what might happen so it’s just better he be here, right? Motel management isn’t the most dangerous job in the world but... 

If anything nasty does arise it ends up compounding his nature. Maybe some patron stumbles in drunk, more terrifying a stick up. See! You need me here, what if something like that happens again? Whoever and whatever causes issues is disposed of unkindly, but it’s out of love! 

What really makes him melt is being able to touch you though. He dearly wants to hold your hand, run his through your hair, hold the hem of your shirt- anything. He’ll take anything. It’s about being with you.

Cuddling With Norman Bates

• This man... is soft as FUCK and anyone who disagrees is WRONG. That being established, he's very into all of the fluffiest, domestic and most "normal" things when it comes to a romantic relationship. Anything that can make his life seem at least the tiniest bit normal, he's all for. Especially cuddling you!

• He loves you so so so much! He's a bit shy though... You're normally the one to initiate cuddling. He's usually a flustered mess during cuddling as well!

• He loves to be held and being little spoon is probably his favorite position. Having you wrapped around him is just so comforting!

• He also enjoys wrapping himself around you; legs tangled together and arms wrapped around you? It's heaven on earth for him!

• Cuddling is one of the few things that genuinly calms him. When Mother is screaming at him to harm others, your angelic prescience is enough to keep him at peace for a little while.

• Overall Norman loves you so much and appreciates the little moments he gets to spend wrapped up in your arms <3

Sitting in Norman’s lap is like…

Well, it depends on what got you there really. If he pulled you in it’s probably innocent enough, he likes this kind of intimacy, it and every other type were denied to him by his mother growing up and then by virtue of isolation and illness later on. 

When it’s like that the most he’d do is kiss you and even that is chased, like someone might catch the two of you, like he has to hide the way he feels. No matter what an air lingers around like he’s living up to someone’s idea of modestly.

If you got in his lap on your own volition though that changes the reception. He’s all eyes on you, quietly nervous, looking for the body language he only really half understands. What are we doing? Are you sure? He’ll let it get more heated, he really will, but every second there’s a chance he might decide this is a bad idea. It’s very much like earning a birds trust, slow to progress but ultimately worth it if that is your goal.

As well there’s always the danger of the other personality shifting in at the very idea of intimacy, of letting Norman experience what people deserved to experience, but if you always concerned yourself with that possibility you’d never get anywhere with him. 

If you have long, thick hair… 

When you met he thought it was lovely, one of the first things he commented on in fact. How long have you grown it out? How do you take care of it? He’s rarely had his hair touch the back of his neck so it’s all new to him.

When you’re closer he asks if he can touch it. That turns into a routine of running his hand through it or brushing it whenever he has the chance, it’s kind of calming for him, just repeating a motion. 

That being said when he catches a snag he always over-apologizes. Did that hurt? I’m sorry! I’ll try to be more careful. He never stops because of it though, not unless you ask, so you get the feeling that he might actually enjoy the little squeaks that come from you when he pulls you hair too hard. It’s not like he’s equipped to talk about something like that, though, so it likely remains unspoken.

Being married to Norman is like…

Well, it’s picturesque most of the time. A loving husband who runs his own business and you, the lucky one who got him to tie the knot. You look carelessly in love, or at least that’s what anyone who rolled in and out of the motel might say in their brief passing. 

There’s a quiet emphasis on continuing the romance. He gets you flowers on those infrequent excursions into town, he’ll cook dinner for the two of you when he has the time, and he never forgets to say he loves you when he leaves to do something- especially if it’s a dangerous something.  

It’s true most of the time that the two of you are living the dream of the perfect American family. He loves you with all that’s in him, he takes the institution of marriage seriously and wouldn’t have agreed to it if he weren’t equally as serious about you. He tries very hard to follow the “book” but real life’s a lot funnier than that. 

It’s in his nature to do the cleaning, quite a bit of the cooking too, it’s in his nature to be as much of a home keeper as he is a breadwinner so tasks all get split equally in the home and motel alike. 

A certain segment of his personality is more traditionalist but for the most part he’s learned to shut her up while living with you. Endangering himself was nothing but now you’re here and the idea of losing you scares him more than mother ever did.

OH YES so a while back I made a gifset of malcolm smiling bc Dimples and an anon pointed out to me that he was ducking his head in almost every gif (can’t find the ask but if that anon is reading this drop your location I just wanna talk) and now...I notice it nearly every time he smiles??? like him smiling is rare enough, and him smiling without ducking his head is even rarer??? so I’m just like you’re allowed to be happy and express your positive emotions jkfDjksdkj it might not even be that deep but it does almost feel like he compulsively hides it and I am Sad!!!

I’ve never actually seen psycho, the most I know about norman bates is what I got from watching like two seasons of bates motel lmao, so I’m probably not the best person to ask! I do think malcolm is a fan of classic horror movies/book and would probably find norman very interesting as a character and try to “profile” him (much to ainsley’s annoyance, “can you please just pay attention to the film!”)
