Theory: Crypt Beds
Alright, so I will be using this blog to post random homestuck theories I've thought up. Most of them will probably be wrong! But that is okay. It is still fun.
Alright, so Crypt Beds: These beds are found within the central pit of Derse, and presumably, Prospit. First time we're introduced to them is in [S] Wake, and most people at the time seemed to think that it was simply there because of the special circumstances surrounding Aradia. However, with [S] Cascade, we know that this is not the case! We can speculate that all sessions presumably have them, and that they are meant to work as sort of a back-up quest bed. However, I think there is more too them than that.
First off: for the crypt bed to work, your real self has to be dead. I feel this is important, because in a game like sburb, so focused around personal destiny, if you die, that means you fucked up, basically. Not necessarily in the game, but on a personal quest level. To see how, let's look at the three examples we have:
Rose: The easiest one to figure out. Rose basically saw her personal quest path, and promptly went into the opposite direction. Ultimately, this led to the Seer of LIGHT becoming a paragon of GRIMDARKNESS. In the end, her reckless behavior and her lack of ability to trust her friends is what got her killed.
Dave: Basically, he became a slave to inevitability. And while Time players are supposed to realize that fact, Dave could never come to terms with the follow-up to that: his own mortality. Moreover, Dave also has a problem with not seeing himself as a hero - his death ultimately shows this, with Dave entering a battle he knew would be futile. He deliberately sets up events so that he cannot play the hero.
Aradia: She's.... a special case. First off, she died before the game. The only thing I can say is that maybe it was her revenge games? I have a lot to say about her, but that will get its own post.
So, they're supposed to be redeemed with their death on their crypt beds? Haha, WRONG. Redemption is a part of the crypt bed death, but it happens after. The Crypt Death God Tier is basically skaia's way of saying, "okay, you fucked up majorly. But you can't get any worse than you are right now. You get another chance." This ties into my theory of how crypt deaths work: they're supposed to be the ultimate rejection of the player's personal quest - the deaths cannot be heroic or just. Again, examples.
Rose wanted to go fly out into the darkness, away from any semblance of Light, and as far away from her friends as possible. Rose has also been at least a little suicidal in nature. Her quest, you could say, began with an empty suicide threat and ended with a real one.
Dave realized his own mortality after his death. But all he wanted to do was escape - he simply couldnt deal with the idea of death anymore. He couldn't be the hero - the sword broke the second he touched it. As he said in the dream bubble, his driving into the sun wasn't some heroic action - it was an escape.
Aradia's death basically meant nothing. Shrug. It wasn't heroic or just, at any rate.
Alright, comment on this, debunk me, debate me, whatever!
EDIT: agh, forgot to mention. 1 other reason the death cant be heroic or just is that after you went god tier you would immediately die! that was actually the basis for this theory, which came from dave talking about his dream and about how it wasn't heroic and such :B
