#3385 - Cryptes baccatus - Wattle Tick Scale
A large Coccid scale insect that feeds on Acacia in SW, Southern, and Eastern Australia, forming colonies of the bloated, tick-like females of about 30 or 40 members. The newly hatched juveniles, known as crawlers, are quite mobile, but the limbs in the adults are vestigial at best.
Often found tended by ants, who protect them in exchange for honeydew.
