Just a quick sneak peak of something I'm working on in between my development of my senior animations. :3 Some long overdue headcanon stoof! This time it's of the Diamond Dog and the Crystal Cat (a species of my own creation). I've always wanted to go back to the diamond dog and do some extra changes to the species because they have so much potential, so I'm doing just that with their feline counterparts in tow. Just a few quick notes that I have thus far: -Diamond Dogs and Crystal Cats are very similar, however they aren't related (of course). Despite that, they're often called "cousins" of one another. -Diamond Dogs are far more top-heavy and have much shorter legs. Despite being able to walk bipedal, they're more comfortable with all fours on the ground, a lot like gorillas. -In contrast, Crystal Cats are perfectly comfortable both on all four and bipedal, and they aren't as top-heavy as their canine counterparts. This makes them far more agile and speedy, whereas Diamond Dogs are much stronger and harder to slow down. -Both species have gems constantly growing from their bodies. If broken, they'll grow back. Many of both species tend to file the gems down for convenience, but there are also those who leave them to grow. Thankfully, they slow in their growth once they've reached a certain size.

-The gems that both species have growing from their bodies are magic conduits, or their primary way of expressing their innate magic outward in the world. When magic is in use, the gems and their eyes glow. These two species also have a unique ability in that their somewhat empathetic, or they have the ability to somewhat influence the emotions of those around them (don’t have direct control over them though). What gem that Diamond Dog/ Crystal Cat has dictates what emotion or basic “property”  they can expel, but exactly how that aura is used depends on the individual. For example: Someone’s gem could be geared toward anger and fear, but the individual could either dampen that anger or increase it. That is the extent of their empathetic ability however; they can’t control anyone with it.

-Diamond Dogs have large, strong claws to dig into rock, gems, and dirt. But because of how big they are, they aren't very dexterous with their paws despite having posable thumbs and flexible digits. In contrast, Crystal Cats have strong claws but they can be sheathed, allowing more accuracy when using their paws. They, however, sometimes need the aid of tools due to their claws being smaller and not as tough as DD claws. Aaaaand that's all for now! Feel free to ask questions if you'd like. :3
