"Such gorgeous plumage too. You can really see the legacy in this one."
The fledgling watched the stablehands muck the stalls while they chatted, occasionally reaching over to give a nearby chocobo a good pat on the beak or head. His parents were in another stable, one meant for the retired racebirds of good standing. He was old enough to leave the nest, eager to begin his own forays into the world of racing.
"Whaddya think, gonna be a racer, this one?"
"Look at those legs, of course he will. Who's his sire?"
"Cerulean uh…what's it…" The taller of the stablehands checked the register. "Cerulean Burst. Long lineage he's got. Oh, his dam's Magnificent Orchid? I love her. Real feisty, but sweet when she likes ya."
The nameless bird tilted his head. His father was a racer, as was his mother, her father, and his father's father. Pale blue and proud, he chirped at the two elezen talking about him.
"About ready for his rider to come get him. Should we give him a snack?"
"Nah, his jockey likes giving her birds premium treats she makes herself. Can't really argue with the results."
A hyur woman poked her head in through the window and grinned.
"She's here for her 'bo." She said, bright and cheery.
He knew. He could tell that she was here for him. It was time for him to go meet his racer, and learn the ways of the track, like those in his prestigious line that came before him. He would tear up those tracks, and make his mark in the racing world. His trainer would guide him, give him a name, and help him earn his fame, and the best chocobo treats the world had to offer.
