i think it's charming how chatty the postman is. they're not allowed to read your letters anymore, so they're making idle conversation and trying to guess what your letters are about. they often say the sender said something to them, implying that they were chatting up everyone else too. just a cute lil' character detail i noticed

🎟️ - how long have you known [you were plural]? how long have you suspected [you were plural]?

we've known since about last year i think? it's already kind of fuzzy b/c we were falling asleep when it happened. but yeah, i (crystal) met magpie and was able to recognize them as a separate entity because i had finally started to explore nonhumanity in ways that gave us a framework for it. they helped me fall asleep when i was having trouble :)

we've suspected it a lot longer. several years ago, we tried identifying separate headmates to no real avail. none of what we came up with stuck. several years before that, we learned about plurality from anthony padilla's interview with some folks with DID, and felt a longing. denied it at first, thought we ruled it out with that failed experiment, and then went "oh" after i met magpie. exploring gender and noticing varying feelings about pronouns helped it finally stick

🫐 - do you have different art styles? writing styles? tones of voice?

art styles, yes. at least one of us is competent at drawing, and at drawing with a mouse, no less. the rest of us, not so much. we haven't done much drawing since discovering we're plural, so we're yet to figure out who.

we don't have different writing styles, as far as i know. we put so much effort into a very particular writing style in order to survive school, that i'd be surprised if anyone was able to escape having that drilled into them. all deviations from that very formal style are intentional and consciously agreed upon.

our voices are very different. rocket and plume have sort of a twinkish quality to their voices (they said it's ok to call it that), and they're fond of how effortlessly it comes to them. some of the others are a little jealous, since they'd have to train the body's voice to match what they have in our head. and it's really hard to find resources for the voice training we want since we don't agree on what voice to train for, and some of us are worried that the wrong training regimen might mess up what they already have. (if anyone has any advice or recommendations about any of that, please share, thx). anyway, blade has a flatter affect, sclera has a heavier voice, trenchcoat's leans a bit more feminine (as best it can), and that's pretty much everything i've personally noticed. i don't pay much attention to my voice, since my thoughts are best conveyed through text, but this post is an example of the tone i tend to write with.
