Well, that isn’t much to go on friend. There are 2 points where Skaia can go black in game. The first point would mean you played a one person session, and if you’re freaking out this much then you are already dead. The second instance of this happening would be during a very potent Crystalization in which case, get ready quick because you are in expert mode right now. If neither of these are the right circumstance, please find some more symptoms and message us again.

Something appears to be wrong with my iteration of Skaia. Over the past perigee, it has begun to turn grey and has developed heavier cloud cover than usual. Please advise. DP ×

Yeeeeeah… Welp. Okay there is a slight chance you prototyped your Sprites with chess pieces and confused the Derse and Prospit white/black scheme. But I am not betting my shoes on it.

Another possibility, also quite improbable (I hope) is that you had already found your Frog and put it in the middle of Skaia and due to some unfortunate events the Frog died. In this case find a new Frog and Skaia will slowly turn normal.

What was mostly likely to happen is that you triggered the Crystallizing before you finished your Reckoning. Or maybe just triggered Crystallizing. Most of people stop playing after Reckoning and Crystallizing is the 5th stage of the game, so most of people hadn’t run into it, I suppose.

If you ask your Consorts about Shadows over Skaia, they should fill you with lore, but to sum it up: Over the yea- perigees your violent actions were accumulating in the core of Prospit/Derse. Once the concentration was high enough they began crystallizing and forming new hateful and hostile life forms. To power themselves they drain light from Skaia. You have to fight these Crystals so they won’t disrupt the fragile peace between Derse and Prospit (which was reached after defeating the Black King). Once the Skaia turns completely black-and-colorless (think obsidian and glass, it looks rather cool), the Crystalyous appear and you have to fight them and defeat them.

You recognize Crystalyou easily. There is only one that will interact with you and that is your Crystalyou to defeat. They look just like you, except they are pure white (if you are Derse Dreamer) or pure black (for Prospit Dreamers) and are wearing your God Tier pajamas with inverted colors.

Crystallizing shouldn’t be triggered before you have completed Descending, however if you had an especially violent and death-full session, it is possible the Crystals began to form. My suggestion is to either finish Ascending, Reckoning, Terraforming, and Descending ASAP so you don’t have any holes and jumps-in-plot or dealing with Crystallizing first and later being able to skip that part where it should be.

What is descending and crystallizing?

You perhaps know that each stage of the game has its name, right? Everything pre-Entering the Medium until you start preparations to the Reckoning is called Awakening. Reckoning is, of course, Reckoning.

Descendig and Crystallizing are stages at the half of the game. Descending is questing at the Core of your Land and getting there and back again Maybe you have noticed the complicated underground system? That’s where it is. I have actually described Crystallizing a little while ago, so let me just copy-paste it in here:

TL;DR: Crystallizing is when all your violence manifests itself and decides to kick your ass.
