The hallways make him feel so lonely, and Cai drags himself across, watching his shadow with a long little stare. But his shadow turns to two, the other one being shorter than his own. He looks behind, seeing a girl. “Were you following me?-- huh?” he asks. The girl trails her eyes down, kicking imaginary pebbles. “Can you be my friend?”

☾ — She denies it, but when she looks at him, all she sees is everything she wants to have. But he never does look back 。.:*・

There’s a tap against the marble floor of the Hogwarts castle, light footsteps seem to huff themselves against the tiles as if Cai is making extra sure on one is going to get bothered. Which he actually is. He never does want to gather attention, he has more than enough of it. A metamorphmagus, an orphan, a kind kid-- you see his story is the most overrated of all the overrated ones. 

He moves, turning and finally pushing the library door open. By this time, he guesses, he’ll be able to find a close friend, someone who doesn’t really bother to interest his story and how people perceive him. His lips corner into a smile the second he spots her.  

You can say she’s the best girl - friend he’ll ever have.

His hair quickly turns to blonde-- yellow, joy. He bows at the librarian before going on his way and stopping right behind her. He moves close to whisper.

it’s mid-afternoon, lunch in the great hall for all students alike; the welcomed respite from all things coursework related. except, devin is one of the few students who isn’t taking shelter in the hall, instead lingering behind in a classroom, working on a formula for magical theory. other students are her company as they all work on their own extracurricular projects. there’s a pile of books spread out in front of her on the desk and her full-of-notes parchments are peeking between pages, spilling over the space. it’s messier than she would ever like it, but the theories of magic are her first priority.

so, it’s not surprise when she reaches for her goblet, the one she keeps full of her precious life water, it turns out to be anything but. she doesn’t notice of course, greedily taking gulps of the dull liquid as she stares at the materials before her. but, the first sign comes soon, as a bitter after taste lingers in her mouth; as if the plain taste was meant to disguise the other, stronger one.

for a second, her face scrunches up and she spares a glance at the goblet before returning to her work. the answer is eluding her and she refuses to quit until she can grasp an idea of it.

reaching forward, devin starts another attempt on a clean bit of parchment. she’s scribbling numbers and mapping wand movements but her frustration is mounting. that’s when the second sign comes, as words start pouring out her mouth like an untapped faucet.

“maybe i’m just not good enough.” a weary sigh follows after her quill pauses. “actually, that’s probably it; i can’t even be good in the one thing i hav-“ a hand slaps over her mouth, but the itch to talk is an irritant in her throat as if it’s splitting at the seams to spill secrets. devin is terrified of the things she’s just said; out loud and all, painfully, honest.

her eyes shift left and right, looking, making sure that she goes unnoticed. that’s when onyx orbs meet her goblet just to realize that it isn’t her goblet and whatever she just ingested is….

a shiver of horror travels through her body.

He reaches over to ruffle her hair slightly, “I do… Well you like books right? I might have a book recommendation for you to read. Of course it’ll be about space, it doesn’t bore you right?”

“You look good in that necklace,” Eleanor commented. She broke the comfortable silence apart between them. Her words laced with intent— her gaze settled in the knot between a metallic chain and tangled hair. But, her attention shifted as the younger replied back.

Once processed, she sensed the laughter itching the back of her throat. It itched terribly. Her chest coiled because what a ludicrous assumption.

At such absurd situation, Eleanor took the opportunity to tease the naive Ravenclaw. The female stood. Once in front of the other, her spine bent and her hands reached for the knot. Once undone and separated the two, Eleanor rise her lips to reach the shell of the other’s ear. 

“Take it as you will.” She whispered with a voice coaxed on honey. Her spine freed itself from the hunched position as she offered Yuna a closed smile. “Although, calling it flirting is a stretch.”

He moved from behind the corner he’d been hiding at and put an arm around Yuna’s shoulders, gaving it a gentle squish as he laughed. ❝ Oh come on, it was just a small little game of peekaboo, ❞ he said in a lighthearted tone.

In all honesty he knew she hated whenever he’d suddenly pop-up from behind a corner just to surprise her, but he couldn’t help himself, her reaction simply never failed to make him laugh.  ❝ Let me make it up to you, how about i show you this new book my father sent over yesterday. ❞

“babe, you look so cool!”

The young girl twirls in front of her ravenclaw friend and giggles softly as the long robe wraps around her short legs and nearly makes her trip once she takes a step forward. She had promised Yuna she would show her dress colection one day and so she did, taking her hand and dragging her back to her Hufflepuff house one weekend when she was a bit too bored. It quickly turned into a feast of giggles and silliness and culminated when she wondered if she would have looked good in Ravenclaw and put on her friend’s ravenclaw robe.

“It’s a bit long on me but then again, I am short... But watch out! Watch me steal your place!”

“i’m amazing when i’m drunk.”

Cai holds her by her arms, supporting the intoxicated girl with gentle strength. He weaves a sigh, why do people do exactly the opposite of what he says they shouldn't? But he’s used to this, being patient-- being boring. But still, people hate him. 

Yuna, on the other hand, was an exemption. She can’t stress enough the fact that she doesn’t hate anything about Cai. A foolish girl, she is. “Yes, you’re amazing” he affirms before trying to drag her away from the crowd. “Let’s get you home, okay?”
