The foreshadowing on this show kills me, especially when it’s a CS foreshadowing. It’s only a matter of time before we get baby Jones.

As if it is news to anyone, Killian gave Emma the ring he has had for centuries, the ring that "has kept him ALIVE", the ring of a "survivor"..... So now without it, he is vulnerable. Whether it is only symbolic or actual magic, he let go of his "protection". HMMMMM, I wonder what is going to happen to him now..............DUM DUM DUM

Hook+Emma Theory/Foreshadowing

In 4x08 we learned that Rumple needs the heart of a person who knew him before he was the dark one in order to activate the hat, which is what the Snow Queen whispered in his ear during episode 4x07.

The Snow Queen also told Rumple in that episode that she’d “I had that hat longer than you, I learned many things.”

But timeline wise, we know that she took the hat from Anna and that it was probably only a day or two before her plan backfired and Elsa was trapped in the urn and she traded the hat to the sorcerer’s apprentice. We never saw her open the hat or even try to. We never saw her have any real interest in the hat besides using it as a bargaining chip. She cares about sisters, not power.

Ingrid did mention her love of reading and curling up in the palace with a good book. So it’s entirely possible that she read up on the hat there, how else would she know who it belonged to? But I doubt there were step by step instructions on how to activate it. I’m guessing it would have been more of a story, like the origin tale of the spell of shattered sight.

The point being, that as I had suspected during episode seven, the Snow Queen was lying to Rumple. I saw most people assume as I had, that based on Rumple’s reaction, it had something to do with harming Hook.

During episode 4x07, we also saw Emma lose control of her magic. We saw Hook reach for Emma and her reaction blowing out the lights and causing a lamppost to fall over. Hook didn’t even notice that there was a lamppost falling, his sole focus was Emma.

After the lamppost fell, Hook reached for Emma again knowing full well that doing so could kill him.

The lamppost left a clear symbolic line between Emma and the rest of her friends/family. As Killian was the only one who cared more about Emma and her feelings than he did about his own life in that moment. He was the only one still supporting her and not terrifed. (While we see that the others are calling to her, Killian is the only one willing to reach after her and risk his life doing so.)

The Snow Queen was of course watching. And while she was thrilled that Emma’s friends and family were turning on her, she also would have seen that Hook was not, hence her need to get rid of him by going directly to Gold's shop to fib to him to get her ribbons back and get rid of the one person who could ruin her plans.

It made me wonder what effects the spell of shattered sight would have on Hook. I imagine that he would see doubts within himself. Thoughts like “I’m nothing more than a pirate.” “I’m a villain, and villains don’t get happy endings.” “Emma will never be able to love someone like me,” etc.

But I started to wonder if there was any part of Emma that Hook did not love or care for. I thought over the entire length of the series. The only time he seemed upset with her was when she wouldn’t enjoy the quiet moments. But I don’t think the word “enjoy” gets to be a part of your vocabulary under this spell.

And then in episode 4x08 Emma questioned Hook saying “I didn’t know you were such a fan of my magic.” To which he responded, “Why would you say that? I’m a fan of every part of you”

"I'm a fan of every part of you" The wording immediately caught my attention. It was like he had a giant blinking sign above his head that said “foreshadowing.” It was a huge answer to my questions.

We also saw in 4x08, Anna come under the influence of the Spell of Shattered sight. Despite her words Elsa wouldn’t turn on her. Anna opened the urn and Elsa said “Do what you will, but know that no matter what Anna, I love you.” As soon as the lid clicked back on the urn Anna’s spell was broken.

I started to wonder what exactly it was that broke Anna’s spell. At first I assumed that since it was just a piece of glass from just one mirror, that maybe it had a time limit on it. But that is just too simple. And even if the time limit was a thousand years with this all powerful mirror, I still doubt Ingrid would cast anything that could even potentially ruin her and her sister’s relationship in the future.

The only other explanation is that it came from Elsa’s declaration of true love. Elsa loving Anna despite all of the horrible things she said and all the doubts she saw in Elsa and herself.

So I think that Hook could be a very important key in breaking the spell. If he came to Emma with all of these self doubts, and she were to reassure him with her own declaration/action of true love, would it break the spell?

Only time will tell.
