IAS Exam considered to be the most competitive exam in the country has a very dynamic and challenging syllabus. IAS syllabus for PRELIMS Exam is divided into two parts: - General Studies (GS) and Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). For GS, aspirants are required to study various sections of General Knowledge from History, Polity, Geography, and Economy to Science & Technology Development in India. IAS syllabus is a mixture of conventional and contemporary issues so that the candidates’ basic knowledge and current affairs knowledge is well tested. CSAT syllabus has various sections of basic Mathematics, Reasoning both verbal and nonverbal, Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability. This syllabus is designed to test the Basic Aptitude of the IAS candidate for Logical Reasoning, English Comprehension & Quantitative Knowledge. IAS MAINS Syllabus is very comprehensive which demands the analytical & excellence skills to gain General Studies knowledge. IAS MAINS Exam consists of four papers of GS. The knowledge base & conceptual clarity formed during PRELIMS Exam preparation helps in writing IAS MAINS Exam. But IAS MAINS syllabus is very detailed one and its link to current issues makes it more meaningful and relevant from examination point of view. GS PAPER I syllabus covers History; Geography and Societal Issues. This syllabus is theoretical in Nature.
GS PAPER II syllabus consists of Indian Polity and Governance and International Relations. Besides the thorough knowledge of Indian constitution, it requires very updated knowledge of Policies and Welfare Schemes of Government of India. Latest events in bilateral relations and Foreign Policy need to be considered. GS PAPER III syllabus is of Economy and Science and Technology Development. This syllabus is based on Government’s decisions and plans regarding Economy of India. The different issues like Rupee Depreciation, Rising Inflation, Planning Process & Role of RBI in financial regulation is covered. Besides that, latest technological development in the fields of Rocket Sciences, Biotechnology & Space Technology is included. GS PAPER IV syllabus covers Ethics & Integrity in Public service. The Theoretical knowledge of Philosophical foundation like Ethics, various dimensions of Ethics & Psychological Knowledge of Moral Values, Social Persuasion & Emotional Intelligence is included. This paper has practical implications of doing case study analysis in which different moral dilemmas are resolved.
