Part 4: HERE
----
You hated how fast your heart was beating.
Schlatt was still hovering over you slightly, close enough that you could feel the warmth radiating off his breath despite the freezing air sneaking through the tent walls. One of his hands rested near your waist beneath your blanket while the other kept him balanced beside your head.
Outside, rain hammered endlessly against the tarp overhead.
Inside, everything suddenly felt too warm.
“So what’s it gonna be?” he asked again, quieter this time.
You tried to say something smart back.. something teasing and something that wouldn't ruin the moment that was being built up in this tiny tent.
But all that came out was: “You’re such a dick.”
Schlatt grinned instantly at this. “There she is.”
You rolled your eyes, but your hand slid up to the front of his hoodie anyway, fingers curling into the fabric, your thumb tracing the fabric
The grin on his face softened immediately. God. You’d never seen him look at anybody the way he looked at you right now. Eyes soft, smile genuine, not one of his cocky smiles after saying a joke, it was a smile like he couldn’t believe this was actually happening.
“You talk too much when you’re nervous,” you murmured.
“I’m literally always nervous around you.”
That caught you off guard enough to laugh softly.
And Schlatt just stared at you again like hearing you laugh was enough to keep him alive.
Your chest tightened painfully. Neither of you said anything for a second. Then his eyes dropped briefly to your lips. His pupils growing larger at the sight, like it was some kryptonite to him and god he didn't care.
“You gonna keep looking at me like that,” he muttered, “or are you actually gonna do something?”
“You’re unbearable.” You rolled your eyes again, but this time you pulled him down by the front of his hoodie before you could think too hard about it.
The second his lips touched yours, Schlatt went completely still.
Like he genuinely hadn’t expected you to do it.
Then one of his hands slid instinctively against your waist beneath the blanket, pulling you a little closer while he kissed you back. His knee in between your legs slightly rubbing that sweet spot.
The kiss was slow at first. Then messier and longer the more you two got used to each other's lips.
A quiet “fuck” left his lips against your mouth when your fingers slipped into his damp hair, and you could physically feel him smile slightly when you laughed into the kiss, slowly sneaking his tongue in between kisses.
“You’re trouble,” he murmured.
“You started this.”
“Yeah, probably.”
Another kiss.
Then another.
And suddenly the small tent felt way too cramped with the way Schlatt was half over you now, basically grinding onto you, his hand tightening slightly at your waist every time you pulled him closer to feel more as soft groans and moans escaped both of your lips.
Outside, somebody yelled through the storm.
Neither of you paid attention.
Until the tent flap suddenly lifted.
Cold air rushed inside.
“Oh for fuck’s sake—” Cooper froze mid-sentence.
You and Schlatt froze with him, looking up at cooper and squinting from the bright light that cooper had on his phone's flashlight.
There was about three full seconds of silence. Cooper's mouth hang agape at this sight.. of you both basically about to fuck.
Schlatt still half on-top of you. Your hands still tangled in his hair. Both of you staring at Cooper like you’d just been caught committing a crime.
Cooper blinked once.
Then: “Oh my god.”
You dropped your face into your hands immediately.
Schlatt just stared blankly. “Can I help you?”
“I was looking for my charger,” Cooper replied, already laughing. “But this is actually insane, dude.”
“Get out.” Schlatt says, trying not to shout to draw any attention
“Nah because I KNEW there was weird shit going on. Y/N-”
“Cooper,” you warned.
“No, seriously, you two have been orbiting each other for like three months.”
Travis then follows along, peeking his head in: “WAIT WHAT HAPPENED?”
Cooper looked thrilled.
“Oh this is evil,” Schlatt muttered, dropping his forehead against your shoulder.
“You deserve this,” you whispered, trying not to laugh.
“Absolutely not.”
Cooper pointed between the two of you dramatically at Travis.
“You are NEVER beating the allegations.” Travis giggles
Then he paused.
“Oh also Schlatt your tent, yeah, dude it collapsed.”
A beat of silence.
Schlatt blinked. “Actually?”
“Like fully flattened.” Travis adds
You burst out laughing while Schlatt looked genuinely offended for a second before sighing dramatically.
“Well,” he muttered, laying back down beside you like he belonged there, “guess this is my tent now.”
“You’re unbelievable.”
“And you let me stay anyway.”
You glanced over at him.
"That's true."
-----
The next morning was absolute hell.
Nobody slept properly because of the storm, everybody smelled vaguely like wet dirt, and half the group looked one inconvenience away from losing their minds completely.
Still, somehow, the tree planting got done.
By the end of it, everybody was covered in mud and desperate to get back to Ryan’s place just to maybe get some shut-eye. The van had gotten stuck in the ground from all the rain overnight, which only made everyone more irritated.
“PUSH THE FUCKING THING.”
“I AM PUSHING.”
“HARDER BOYS, WE’VE GOT IT!”
Swagger nearly slipped twice trying to help while Mason laughed hard enough to become completely useless and Chad is stood by the front trying to push it as Fitz keeps revving it.
You stayed off to the side, arms crossed tightly while trying not to think about the drive back.
Yesterday’s drive to the campsite had been awful.
Too many turns and too much swerving from Fitz. He's a great driver, yeah, but he was only doing it for laughs for the YouTube.
You hadn’t even realized you looked sick until Schlatt quietly handed you water halfway through the trip there when you were all stood at the services station for Mason’s smoke break
Now you heard boots crunch against the wet ground beside you. How could you not recognise the Timberlands next to you as you look down.
“C’mere.”
You looked up to see Schlatt nodding toward the trees slightly away from the others.
“What?”
“Just come here.”
You followed him a few steps away from the chaos before he held out his water bottle toward you.
“You barely drank anything today.”
You blinked. “You remembered?”
“Yeah?” he said like it was obvious. “You looked miserable yesterday.”
Your stomach flipped slightly.
“You dragged me away from the group to hydrate me?”
“Don’t make it weird.”
You laughed quietly, taking the bottle from him anyway.
Behind you suddenly, Mason's very thick aussie accent: “VAN’S OUT DOGS! LETS GO HOME!”
The moment broke immediately.
Everyone started piling back toward the van while Schlatt looked at you one more time
“Don't go on your phone and turn around loads to try and speak to Swagger and Cooper this time.”
“You sound like somebody’s mother.”
“Shut up.”
————
By the time everybody got back to Ryan’s place later that morning, exhaustion had fully settled in.
The van parked outside the house while everyone slowly climbed out carrying bags, camera equipment, 'SCUFFED' hoodies and whatever else survived the camping trip.
Ryan still hadn’t opened the front door yet, leaving half the group awkwardly crowded outside waiting for him.
You stood near the steps beside Cooper and Carson while Schlatt lingered nearby scrolling through his phone, probably twitter or ebay.
Chad peaked out of the van holding two glass bottles dramatically.
“Fuck I think they're slippery.”
“Chad, put—” Fitz started.
Too late.
SMASH.
Both bottles shattered against the van's floor instantly.
Everyone yelled at once.
“Oh my god,” you groaned.
Chad doubled over laughing before immediately wincing.
“Oh wait— shit.”
You spotted the blood first.
“Are you serious right now?” you sighed, walking over next to Fitz, grabbing his wrist carefully. “You cut your hand.”
“It’s fine.”
“It is literally dripping.” Fitz says, also holding the hand
Carson looked horrified while Cooper laughed hard enough to nearly fall backwards down the steps.
“You are such an idiot,” Fitz laughs
"Has Ryan got a first aid kit?" You say, trying not to laugh as Chad looks at you with slight fear and a “pissed-off-at-himself” look.
You dragged Chad inside the second Ryan finally opened the door, immediately pulling him toward the bathroom to clean the cut up.
“You’re acting like I got shot,” Chad complained while you wrapped a bandage around his palm.
“You smashed glass with your bare hands.”
“It looked cool for like two seconds though.”
“I don't want you getting this infected, okay. I know what I'm doing I had to learn first aid in High School.”
Once his hand was properly wrapped, Chad disappeared back toward the living room where everyone else had already started yelling over each other again and laughing over what happened.
You were washing your hands when the bathroom door opened.
Schlatt leaned against the doorway while Cooper stood behind him already looking smug.
“Oh no,” you sighed immediately.
“So,” Cooper started.
“No.”
“You two gonna explain whatever the hell last night was? And the fact when I walked in you two were close to fucking?”
Heat rushed straight to your face.
Schlatt rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly before glancing at you.
“It’s not really—”
“Defined?” Cooper interrupted. “Yeah, no kidding, jesus dude.”
You laughed quietly despite yourself.
The teasing expression on Cooper’s face softened slightly after a second.
“I’m just saying,” he shrugged. “You both act insane around each other. Like. you've never had enough of being by each other.”
Schlatt snorted softly. “That feels dramatic.”
“You literally stare at her like she hung the moon.”
There was a beat of silence.
Then Schlatt muttered: “Okay maybe that one’s fair.”
Cooper looked between both of you with the most exhausted expression imaginable.
“You are both unbelievably down bad for eachother.”
Cooper then walks away and then pauses, turning back to look at you and Schlatt.
"If you two don't want to get hurt, sort yourselves out because I'm not playing cupid. You're both my friends, Y/N being one of my first and closest and I don't want this just being some confusing thing you both come to me about. So either, fuck and get it over if it's just that. Or, go on a date, learn more about each other and make something of it. I'm gonna call an uber for us to get to the airbnb. See you guys in a bit." You and Schlatt just look at each other, slightly in awe at what Cooper just said.
"Wow." "I know."
this is actually the funniest lunch club skit of all time it's so fucking stupid
