I really don’t think there’s a more realistic or better writing for a hedonistic character that tends to move on rather quickly from traumatic experiences (or runs away at times) as a manner of coping. Did it hurt any less because he already regained his footing?

No, of course not. Just because you bounce back right after experiencing something quite traumatic doesn’t mean that it didn’t affect you whatsoever. The emotional and mental wounds remain, only time can heal them but that hole will never be fully filled again. Denji soothes himself with the thought of being able to find family over and over again, no matter what which in itself is growth because this doesn’t mean he views people as replaceable, he’s simply aware he can start again even if he’s been set back to point zero. No matter what.

I am seeing a lot of people taking Dennis’ attitude the wrong way. Sure it does seem psychotic, it’s Chainsawman. When isn’t it? However basing it off of last chapter, this is not Denji devaluing Aki, Power and Nayuta. This is him facing that they are gone and it isn’t his fault that they are gone.

Last chapter Denji recalls the memories that hurt him. They hurt him yet those are treasured memories that made him happy in the moment. These happy memories are sullied when they are filling him with so much guilt. He remembers all the times he could smile without guilt.

He remembers what it was like when it was just him and Pochita. He was miserable but he was always able to smile because he had Pochita in his corner. He finally realizes he still does.

I think this is Denji realizing if something bad happens in his life, he isn’t to blame by just existing and that it is okay to find happiness after disaster strikes him.

He is a perpetual motion machine because all the misery of his life makes all the good that comes from life that much better.

CSM 184 : Why is Denji running ? Because it's his turn.

Denji does the opposite of this man, he doesn't run away from reality, he tries to reach it

that's what he said in the last chapter, the real Chainsaw Man's stomach is in the real world

Yet Denji managed to vomit up concepts ingested by this other stomach

Because they're related

Why does Denji seem to have fainted at the beginning? Because he was the form of Pochita, his mind was on standby, so his mind aligned itself with what the body in the other world was feeling: dying.

And it was a vicious circle: Denji wanted to die and Pochita was dying.

Asa comforts Denji, giving him back the will to live

Then Pochita's body suddenly wakes up, spitting out what he has just swallowed.

If Pochita appears to be helping Denji, it's because his body is physically reacting in the real world.

As the heart starts beating again, the concept of snow must leave the body, the body warms up

As the heart starts beating again, a bitter taste comes to the mouth, Pochita is thirsty

Thirsty for blood, he no longer regenerates

Just as Pochita helped Denji, he asked him to help him

"My body is cold, I'm thirsty"

The cold ? the bitter taste ? things we'd rather forget ? or unpleasant things that remind us of the danger of loss and the need to live.

So what does Denji do? Run to warm this body. Then the snow starts to melt.

Pochita has always been the heart that has allowed Denji to regenerate himself

It's Denji's turn to be the heart

No, CSM isn't counting on the death of these children to regenerate himself, he's counting on the rebirth of the child within him.

A fan of perpetual motion, because a heart never stops.

This eternal world is not eternity; on the contrary, it is the extreme finiteness to which old age returns us. This world is the last long minutes before death. Some people take the wrong path and pray to become a tree, counting on eternity, the long term, ending up rotting.

Asa and Yoru have no powers either, as their powers are derived from their brains, one of the first organs to become effective if insufficiently oxygenated.

you can't die either? not because you're eternal, but because you're already dying. if the agony has to be slow, it won't speed up to be less painful

Faced with this aging world, the challenge is not to count on eternity, but on the smallest of seconds.

So Denji runs, so the snow starts to melt again, so the heart rate increases, so the heart pumps perhaps not more blood, but blood more quickly.

Denji is the one who finally helps Pochita

To do that, he has to be like him, smiling

A lighter heart, no longer weighed down by grief

Projecting him towards comforting dreams, because they are his dreams too

We'll still have a family...

And then there are the girls who still exist..

It's your turn CSM to dream.

okay i finally caught up with chainsaw man so now i gotta yap about this. as much as i dont like nayuta's death i do enjoy the direction fujimoto is taking with it.

what makes chainsaw man stand out to me in comparison to a lot of over tragedies is how love is always at the core of it. it might not last, or change much in the long run, but its there and it matters.

denji can keep going even when the people around him die because he knows he can love again. its bittersweet, but it's better to love and lose rather than not love at all.

also denji directly referring to aki and power as his family oguhhh 😭
