Thinking about Denji asking for whole cakes to eat when he's given the opportunity bc it's likely he wouldn't be able to afford them living with Nayuta. And also the fact that the cake was the first thing he saw when Power was killed by Makima.

Him eating the cake whole on his own when he's lifted of the burden of being the elder sibling who provides (Yoshida pays for it + the cake after Nayuta's supposed death) it also kinda ties back to the omake of kid Denji sharing the slurry with Pochita as cake while being the one who provides for both of them.

Denji being unable to enjoy and share the cake with Power, the cake that marks his growth as an indication that he's human and a child (17 years old) that growth instead a passage of maturity for him to be the csm and the elder sibling.

That he's being fed the cake through Yoshida with the framing of a "normal life". The decadence of the cake as Denji's original dream, that he eats the cake made to be shared by himself because it's for him, in that moment he's free of responsibility.

That Yoshida sneakily cuts a slice of it for himself. The way Yoshida's neat slice with the knife is contrasted w Denji's messy grab. As they're served their drinks (iced coffee for Yoshida, orange juice for Denji)

My snow and bitterness analysis all over again. Also the way Denji asks for ice cream too. (Loss parallels w Angel Devil tied to Aki) 🥴🥴🥴

Going back to this page. Their orders placed here is kinda wild along these line of thoughts + the fact that this acts as conclusion for the Aging Devil arc.

Kiga, the elder sibling asking for the same cake as Denji, her co-opting of his gluttony, his dream with her gluttony, her goal.

Fumiko asking for orange juice, the way she positions herself as a junior, a child alongside Yoshida and Denji. The drink that opposes the mature, sentimental cold bitterness of Yoshida's iced coffee (snow bitter analysis + kishibe parallels)

Asa's Royal Milk Tea, white tea heavy with milk, the child who shares her body with the younger sibling. The tea made of young leaves and dampened, sweetened bitterness. Yoru's ire shrouded in Asa's grief repurposed.

CSM #190 : Celebrating imminent death : a strange concept

I think this chapter is about how disconnected words can be from reality, or rather how important, even crucial, they can be, just as they are disconnected.

I don't think this chapter is anti-climax. In fact, I think the opposite, as it explains how humans and devils came naturally to cooperate : when a devil's power manages to turn against him.

The contract is an absolute for devils and humans. And now you may be thinking that it's still disappointing, that it's all come to an end with a sort of truce through words. What if there's more to it than that ?

When the deal is that none of the parties will have to fight.. What does this mean? That the fight is over, yes, but what else ?

For me, it mean that our protagonists will no longer fight old age, it means an early death for Yoshida and eternal youth, or even a new death for Denji and Asa.

It's not good to see old age remain in its own world, because the deal is to no longer have the chance to grow old.

Because the control demon has no particular animosity, at worst a kind of curiosity.

And yet the deal is that everyone stays in their own world.

But if the demon of old age has managed to extricate itself from its own world, that doesn't mean the feasting protagonists haven't trapped themselves.

When Yoshida and Fumiko say that life is back to normal when they see a group of humans slaughtering a chainsaw wannabe, it's clear that their words are disconnected from reality.

And I think that everything in this chapter is to be taken in an offbeat sense.

Take a long, hard look at what's being shown

Why, for example, did you have the demon of aging experience nothingness and then have pochita appear ?

Because he is symbolically the devil of existence that brings us out of nothingness.

Just as the chapter is titled To Their Respective Worlds its own world, so it's clear from the chainsaw wannabe that this is hardly the case, with the fire demon wreaking havoc.

Normality is therefore the interaction between the devils and humans, not the fact that they live in different worlds.

The contract between our protagonists and the devil of aging is therefore abnormal.

They may have escaped immortality

But they joined a mortality that may be far crueler

what if Professor of Yoshida's theory of respective worlds doesn't work? what if, in reality, even if the bear and the human remain in their respective worlds, the bodycount can increase.

I love this scene so much. Denji pinning down the menu so he can slowly digest the words on the page. Asa still rocking her devil arms, I assume she convinced Yoru to not finger-gun Denji so they can take a breather. Fumiko sharing a menu with Yoshida, having to lean in. Fami showing up after completely ditching in 171. I bet they said "table for 4" and she shoved her way in and stole either Yoshida's or Fumiko's menu.

i’m going to nerd out about stupid inconsequential stuff rq, but i’ve been really wanting fujimoto to make a devil that is associated with the deep sea and i can’t believe i never thought that octopus could be a valid candidate for that. it’s everything i could have ever wanted even if it was short lived.

but aging devil being sent to what almost seems like a different world inside of octopus. one that is so dark and isolating that a aging devil assumes that this is the void after death. the (what i assume is) marine snow drifting around as pochita slowly emerges from the darkness is also so perfect.

i have such a deep love and fascination with the deep sea so seeing it portrayed as something that is able to confuse a primal fear like this makes me go crazy
