You know with yours and @lokijiro Mycroft idea.you lot would love a desi Mycroft who eventually gives the CSS exams! He'd be right at home in Pakistan!
Basically the CSS is an exam you can give after you are thirty, which basically means you need an encyclopedic knowledge and writing skills and it's really really tough. If you get good marks in this (very competitive exam) you get your pick of where you want to be in the govt. Mycroft, who'd obviously be no.1, would be free to choose wherever he wants to be— you can get into everything by those roles that are chosen by elections or like become the supreme judge, but otherwise it's free reign (the positions you can't get are ones Mycroft wouldn't want anyway so)
Idk if Britain has anything similar but Mycroft would totally be at home. Idk if top marks at the CSS exams would give him the ability to give him his shadow govt but "minor" role, but eh we've come close enough. Besides I feel like he'd to the exam out of boredom one day while Sherlock is busy being dead (if we assume he hasn't alr in a desi!Holmes timeline)

I just got your message! Tis a bit sad that you have to be Pakistani (not just desi) but while it does mean our Mycroft can't give the test out of boredom, it does make sense.
Either way Pakistani!Mycroft would be having fun!
ANd. The UK has UK Civil Service Fast Stream which is *similar* but it's a lot more practical and physical than the CSS (from the very basic run I did on Google) there's interview and case study and it's not really about Mycroft's humongous Wikipedia mind 😂
