The finished fishtank!
Everybody started exploring right after I put them in, which surprised me a little. I thought they would hide for a while.
*snootling intensifies*
bonus cameo from the ctenopoma
Was trying to get pics of the ctenopoma with the bichirs when...
Whoops. 🤣🤣🤣
The ctenopoma just folding under like "oh ok..." and accepting his life... that's the level of unbothered I strive for.
Zip and Shy Shy begging part 2:
I love these fish.
I grew up around saltwater and kept saltwater aquariums. When I was a kid I thought freshwater was boring. NOW I’m an exclusively freshwater keeper and waaaay into plants.
THESE TWO GOOBERS are the best! When I adopted them in 2017 they were somewhere between nickel and quarter sized. NOW they are as big as my hands and I am not a small person.
I fuckin love these fish!
POV you’ve just opened a can of worms
Immature Ctenopoma acutirostre. I love these guys. If you have the space and dont intend on keeping anything else too small, i highly recommend. They get 6-8 inches, but are typically fairly inactive fish. It will take years for them to get to full size
they are peaceful predators, theyre more likely to hide from a fight than they are to fight back. But they will try and eat anything that they think fits in their mouths
I have gone out of my way to have the weirdest fish I can get and by god have I succeeded.
Fettuccine noodle fish and spotty googly eyed freak (affectionate)
