Greetings! I have been asking Ao3 authors they got started on Ao3 and who else to ask!
And guess what? @writtingwithaglassquill told me for ask you! so how did you find/get started on ao3? And who else should I ask?
i'd seen quill's post, so i suspected this would be coming to my inbox eventually. i, however, did not prepare!
long story short, i had a good friend who'd been reading and writing on ao3 for years and i finally decided to make an account myself last year. in reading fic tailored to my niche at the time, i saw a lot of stories that inspired me. from there, i wrote my first fic. rest is history, i suppose?
to expand a bit on my full fic list, though, it wasn't long after writing my first full fic that i was caught by the loneliness that is writing alone. some people do well for it, but i was finding it demotivating, so i reached out to a writer i'd been reading the fics of at the time—and that i'd interacted with on tumblr semi often—to ask if they might be open to co-writing an idea i had. she accepted, and cthl (the biggest fic series on my page) was born.
if writing alone is intimidating, co-writing is such a beautiful thing. always leave yourself open to collaboration—you can do so much more with a broader swath of perspectives than you could ever do alone, even if you and your co-writer(s) have so very much in common.
cheers! i hope that was insightful for you, or helpful in any way. don't know what your game is, stranger, but i'm flattered to be asked a little question.
writers i know (other than my beloved co-writers, @nine-of-diamonds and @crabbri, who quill had already tagged in her own post) and respect and think could offer some neat stories would be @cat-in-the-desert and @nyxtheeclipse assuming they haven't already been tagged by another person in one of these asks.
