@ctl-yuejie you’re too kind! I’m nowhere near being an expert at gif-making or using GIMP.
But I do have one tip that could help your anon, or anyone interested in making gifs using GIMP: check this tutorial made by @fy-gimp. If all you want is to quickly get started, it explains everything you need to know. This is how I made my first gifs, how I got familiar with how GIMP works, and how I started devising my own process.
Just a couple more things:
Tumblr has increased file size limits for gifs since the tutorial was written. Check here for up-to-date info.
I extract frames from videos using VLC Media Player. This tutorial explains how. Type "1" in "Recording ratio" to extract every single frame of your video and save to jpg. You can also save to bmp. You'll get slightly better frames but it may bog down your computer. And if your computer can't handle it, it'll skip frames and you'll end up with gifs that look choppy.
Animstack is a GIMP plug-in you will need if you're making gifs. You can download it here. You'll also find links to Youtube tutorials and their tumblr on there.
So there you have it! You can make gifs in GIMP now! And if you have any questions, I’m here.
I may get round to writing about my process in details at some point. I'm still experimenting though, so I'm following a new process for almost every gifset I make.
