El abuelo...Trinidad, Cuba por Jose Antonio Rey Por Flickr: Recuerdos del abuelo Nos sorprendió la llamada en una mañana mientras Laura y yo buscábamos otros lugares de Trinidad para fotografiar, el abuelo y su nieta sentados frente a la casa. El abuelo nos llamó y con voz serena me conto que tenia mas de 100 años y que había vivido numerosos momentos a lo largo de su vida, que sus abuelos fueron esclavos y su padre luchó junto a los mambises. La nieta escuchaba sin mucha atención, esa historia que conocía de antes. Luego de un rato conversando nos despedimos y me sentí tan agradecido. Su sonrisa y fuerza permanecen en mi memoria.

Currently sewing the Iko Iko building together, it is coming along quite nicely. Hooray . [Image Description. Two fabric pieces that are the top and bottoms of the building, but they are kinda side by side. The bottom shop front has more fabric details sewn into place and displays in the windows. This one is all cut out now, and I am so excited about this piece that I am going to sew it up, cause I want to know how its going to look once its all sewn up. I am going to be satin stitching the edges in matching colours, for the most part. But also, I want to use some of the stitching as accents, in places I think. And look at those pink flamingos. Iko Iko is houses in an Edwardian building on Cuba st, in Wellington. Cuba street is a colourful off beat place where all the artists and hippies and a few hipsters hang out drink coffee, eat good food and buy interesting gifts. this building was built in the early 1900's along with several other Edwardian buildings that gives Cuba Street its colourful character. It was originally designed by a well know architect, John Swan. it has been occupied by a confectioner, a fruiter, a jeweller, and for the longest time a series of butchers until in 1998 it became the now iconic Iko Iko store where wellington goes to get off beat and fun gifts for their friends. . [Image description. as mentioned on the left is the fabric piece, that is still a work in progress. It is a blue two-story Edwardian building, that has fancy columns surround the upper story sash windows. There are three upper story windows and a shop front in the lower story. There are details of a building in the top windows, that looks like a reflection. The Edwardian column and details are now in place waiting for stitching accents, and there is two lawn pink flamingos in pots by the shop entrance, that look just lovely.
