Aftermath of the April 2011 tornadoes in Cullman
Ave Maria Grotto is a 4 acre park at St. Bernard Abbey, in Cullman, Alabama. It incorporates 125 miniature reproductions of famous houses of worship and landmarks from all over the world, includng the Tower of Babel and landmarks from ancient Jerusalem. Brother Joseph Zoettl, a Benedictine Monk, worked on the grotto nearly unceasingly for 5 decades until his death in 1961.
Antiquing: Cullman edition
We went on an adventure Friday to Southern Accents in Cullman, AL. This shop is packed full of historic housewares and we hoped to find some period lighting that we could use in our project. Navigating the extensive inventory in the store, grounds, and nearby buildings was amazing. There was a whole warehouse of old doors. An upstairs room boasted hundreds of pickets and newel posts for stairways. There was an overwhelming collection of old glass and brass doorknobs and hardware. It seemed like everywhere we turned we were saying, "Oh wow look at this!" Not everything was something that we could use, but all of it was interesting. Take a look:
