(continued from here, it’s an ask meme about skinny dipping so I might as well put it under a readmore too)

This was a hobby of Kairi’s that Sora was completely unaware of until now. Seeing her there, standing on the sands of their childhood playground, completely bare to the sun and the surf...it was a little overwhelming. 

Thankfully, Kairi broke the awkward silence with a bit of playfulness, and Sora felt immediately compelled to join her in the water. “Now why would I ever walk away from you?” he calls as he starts to get undressed.

         THAT hadn’t been the reaction he was expecting. The smirk across his lips faded, a more thoughtful expression taking its place. Unlike Sora, she was incredibly perceptive—perhaps that was partly due to her status as a Princess of Heart. Even if she wasn’t one of the princesses, she was still smart. And in cases like this, he wished she was as thick headed as the other person in their trio. Even though she had reassured him that everything was fine, he still found it hard to look her directly in the eyes. There was more that he had done, things she didn’t know about, and was better off not knowing. The guilt he carried was gnawing away at him, and it was starting to be too much for him to handle. Nothing could return to the way it was before, he’d been too C O R R U P T E D.

Gaze averted away from her quickly as the memories started flooding back. Of course she didn’t get her fill of adventure. She had been empty while himself and Sora had been exploring worlds, looking for her. And then when he found her, well. She could have been treated better. He could have found a different way to give her back her heart. There were a lot of what if scenarios that played in his head each night. Neither of them would understand, not that he wanted them to. They were better off not carrying the burden he did.

❝  Knowing him, he’ll probably want to go back out there eventually. Especially if it’s to see old friends he’s made. As for me, I’m still trying to decide if I’ve had my fill of adventure. I’m sure if you talked to Sora about it, he’d be willing to take you to other worlds. There’s a lot he can show you.  ❞   Besides, it was probably safer that Sora took Kairi to visit the other worlds. There were more allies to make sure she’d be kept safe. More than could be said if the two of them went alone. Maybe if they left before him, that would keep the two from looking for him for a while. No, he shouldn’t encourage it. It was better if they stayed on the island. Why did she have to find him at that very moment? His own thoughts and feelings were getting muddled, conflicting even more violently against each other than before.

Keeping the Princess of Heart locked up was kind of unnecessary, Demyx thought.  Where was she going to go, in this weird in-between place that couldn’t even really be called a world.  Well, whatever.  He’d rather be sitting out here on guard duty than running around the worlds trying to find Roxas.

He still hadn’t gotten over Cerberus.

“Hey!  Kairi, right?” Demyx asked brightly once he’d relieved Xaldin from his post.

“Kairi....can you teach me magic?” She doesn’t want to feel helpless anymore. She wants to help her Somebody, as well as the others...and given her situation, as the shard of heart she possesses grows...all her emotions are tumbled together and just being around the red-headed Princess of Heart fuels her drive.
