“good luck to the fool you drag with you,” he chortles into his iced coffee, looking off. there’s a sobering beat of thought before jay sighs heavily, groaning as eyes roll back toward her. “augustine.” that warning tone, the kind that’s ushering in the word no. “i have a really good track record of never attending a degrassi dance, i’m not fucking that up now.” even as a chaperone. hell, especially as a chaperone. the last thing jay wants is to be sober and surrounded by a bunch of teenagers. he gestures towards her. “how is it possible that it’s been years and i’m still your only friend? there’s gotta be someone else i can tag in for this.”

zac’s been standing here for a minute now, his hands shoved into the pocket of his worn out jeans, kicking at the dust on auggies porch. didn’t really attend to find his way here tonight, but once he started walking, he found himself stood in front of the house he’s been at so many times, it’s practically considered a second home to him at this point. he’s gonna knock, he will, it’s just taking him a second trying to figure out what the fuck he wants to say exactly without bringing extra drama in auggies already spectacle life. the door opens just as he’s bringing out his phone to shoot her a text, not doubting that she’s awake, but curious if she was alone. lids blink slow for a second before he tips his chin up, glances at the sky. “ so it is. “ zac agrees sardonically, jerking his head back forward. “ i wanted to talk to you. you got company? “

– PAIGE CRACKS A FEEBLE SMILE, nodding her head. still, as much as she’s come to like auggie, the other blonde isn’t really the most IDEAL person to witness this. ‘ i appreciate that, hun, but . . . i know you were like, friends with that freak of nature, so – i’m aware it puts you in a weird spot. ’ paige dabs at the corners of her eyes. her campaign to get rick transferred had officially FAILED, coupled with a lecture from raditch and news officially delivered : terri was never coming back. like ever.

paige had been willing to stomach the entire situation on the grounds that it was all temporary. sure, maybe she’d messed up, but after a semester somewhere else, some time away from school . . . terri would be back anyway and it wouldn’t even matter. but now it did. tears of frustration form in her eyes again at the idea that every time she has to see HIM in the hallways it’ll just be another freaking reminder. 

‘ i just don’t know what to do at this point, which i guess is probably the point. there’s nothing i CAN do, and i hate that, it makes me feel so helpless, ’ because paige, while upset, is not the sort of person to result to throwing someone in a dumpster. she wants to solve things the right way, but after losing the court case at the beginning of the semester and getting her petition shut down, it’s increasingly frustrating how the ‘right’ way is just pointless bureaucracy.

honey eyes stay flickering between the group of familiars across the way, and the red cup in between her hands. the eyes on her are hot, causing red to spread across the back of her neck and brows to twitch. maybe a year ago calliope would relish in the attention her old friends were giving her, but things are different now. she has the feeling they aren’t staring in worship and envy of her pristine outfit like they would before. instead, there’s heavy judgment and disdain in their eyes as they lean sideways to whisper to their friends. or, it could all be in callie’s head. for all she knows, they could be here enjoying a wild party off base like usual, not even mindful of the girl they’ve given the cold shoulder ever since her transfer.

voice beside her has callie’s eyes shifting their attention to auggie, chin tilting down. blond brows tense again, and a stifled scoff releases from callie.    “    no. they aren’t.    “    she states firmly, shifting her weight so she’s stood evenly and squared, eyes giving the other girl a once over.    “    no need to embarrass yourself.    “    or me, she thinks, but doesn’t add.

her fingers freeze, the brush of the gloss between them stopping just a few inches above auggies lips. god, did she really say that out loud? shannon always had a habit of speaking before thinking, and usually it gets brushed off her shoulder, but this was.. different. shaking her head, shannon laughs anxiously, playing it cool as she slides the gloss back into it’s tube. “ i do. did. whatever. so what? they’re.. a nice shape? what do you want me to say? they’re ugly? fine, you have ugly lips. is that better? “ and there goes her inauspicious blabbing. a nice shape? yeah, that’s what she means. definitely. totally didn’t say it in a spur of thought of kissing her again despite there being no mistletoe or new year tradition in sight. “ anywho.. i’m done. you can keep the gloss because it suits you and i was tired of the color anyway. “

the sound of crickets and the distant breeze of the wind surrounds the night they’re settling in. they sit in silence, but their mutual presences speaks louder than words they could ever describe out loud. it’s relaxing, and zac could bask in this peaceful moment for a century, but zac’s growing jaded and mischievous with each passing moment. “ i’m bored. “ he finally groans, his head lifting up and resting on the back of the couch the two were sitting on, a brief moment of thought as he rattles his brain for any ideas. zac hums, turning his head sideways to glance at auggie as an idea sparks in his head. “ you got a hot tub, don’t you? “ he asks, biting into the growing smirk beginning to spread across his face. tipping his chin down, he wiggles his brows, nudges her shoulder with his own. “ let’s go take a dip. “

long pause fills the expanse of her room, jay mostly dragging out the silence for the hell of it. even with her notch in his proverbial bedpost, he can’t resist playing with the emotions of things. 

“-- i have to go.” and jay never really has to do anything. he just should go. the time has come and he can feel it. this is the part where he gets up, locates his clothes, and makes a hasty exit.

instead he turns his head toward auggie, his cheek pressed against her pillow. a blissed smirk pinches lightly at the edges of his mouth, despite the amiable mocking in it, he still feels like he’s reading a line when he asks, “how do you feel?”

“gimme a break,” craig rolls affable eyes, leaning to gently bump his shoulder against auggie’s. the sun’s sank behind the horizon and the breeze is cool off the waves, still far removed from the iceland that degrassi’s probably living in right now. he cocks his head. “this is good. we can stay here.” it’s what the trip’s about, right? spontaneity, taking risks, getting outside their comfort zone. “if we stay long enough, maybe we’ll even see the sun come up again.”
