“We’re not getting a puppy,” Kasamatsu said. He noticed Kise stopped in front of the animal shelter on their way home.
“But it’s adoption day!” Kise insisted “We could be the home that one of these poor animals are looking for!”
“No, you travel all the time. I’m gonna end up being the one who takes care of it!”
“But you would have someone to keep you company when I’m gone.”
“I don’t want company,” He sighed as Kise dragged him inside of the building. It kind of smelled in here, but he guessed it was expected of a kennel.
He was able to laugh a bit as he watched Kise go from dog to dog, playing with each of them. There were other people there as well. Most of them were couples or families. It was interesting to watch the way everyone interacted. The moms watched the kids as they talked to one another. The younger kids were trying to get the dogs to sit, or listen to any command that they gave.
“Look at this one.”
“Of course you would pick a golden retriever,” Kasamatsu smirked. Kise was on the floor giving the puppy a belly rub. His eyes were lit up as he played with it.
“Isn’t he cute?” Kise said holding the young dog up.
“Is he trained?” Sure the display in front of him was cute, but he wasn’t sure if he could handle a puppy. He wouldn’t have the patients to deal with it after a long day at work. It was one of the reasons he didn’t want kids. It was too much to have to raise something. He didn’t want that kind of responsibility.
“I’m not sure,” Kise said holding the puppy close to himself. He could sense that Kasamatsu was going to say no if he didn’t think of something. “I’ll ask someone. Worse case scenario we can always train him.”
“If you feel like not going out of the country for shoots until that happens,” Kasamatsu folded his arms. He wasn’t going to let all of this fall on him.
“I’ll go ask someone,” Kise said going to look for one of the volunteers. He thought that having a dog in the house would do them some good. It would be nice to add a new family member! He knew that Kasamatsu hated being home alone and preferred that Kise not travel unless necessary. Kise did try to keep his trips to a minimum, but he couldn’t always.
“Excuse me,” he managed to find a volunteer. “Is this little guy trained?”
“Um,” the girl blushed recognizing Kise. “Yes, he is. He just finished his obedience classes last week.”
“Really? You must be pretty smart then!” He grinned rubbing the dogs head.
“Are you interested in adopting him?” She asked.
“Definitely! I just need to go get Yukio real quick.” He said looking around the room for his lover. “I’ll be right back.”
He spotted Kasamatsu by the cages. He was talking with another one of the people who worked there. He had his back to him, but Kise could tell from the way Kasamatsu was nodding his head, they were talking about something serious.
He had his fingers crossed that Kasamatsu hadn’t found another dog. He had his heart set on this one. He couldn’t just leave him after spending so much time with him.
“Yukio! He is trained so can we get him?” He called out.
Kasamatsu turned around looking a bit guilty. He had a cat in his arms. It was an older looking cat, probably older than nine years. It was a grumpy looking orange Taby. It wiggled a bit in Kasamatsu’s arms before settling down some. It was starting to fall asleep.
“Yukio?”
“They’re gonna put him down if no one adopts him today,” Kasamatsu said simply. “We have to.”
Kise couldn’t argue with that.
“It turns out Oscar here is really good with dogs, especially puppies.” The volunteer said. He was nervous that they would change their minds.
“Oscar?” Kise blinked.
“The cats name is Oscar.” Kasamatsu said.
“Then let’s get both!”
They did.
“Your kid is acting up again,” Kasamatsu said when Kise got home. The puppy, that they had named Pup (the name was Kise’s idea) was lying in a pile of ripped up newspapers.
“Why is he my kid when he’s acting up?”
“Because you said he was trained.” Kasamatsu said cleaning up some of the mess. Every time he turned his back the dog was up to something. Not to mention Pup got bigger every day! He also seemed to find something new to get into. It was worse because it was winter time, so he couldn’t spend as much time outside. There were days when Pup would just dart back and forth across the house to get rid of pent up energy.
“He doesn’t mean any harm,” Kise said. “And he was trained. We even took him back to obedience classes and everything.”
Pup got up to greet Kise, tail wagging. He acted as if he had done nothing wrong.
“You got to behave Pup,” Kise said petting him. “Kasamatsu doesn’t like it when you chew on things. Especially not after we spent so much money on your toys.” Pup just barked and hopped a bit before trotting back in the living room, throwing around the last few scraps of paper that hadn’t been cleaned up yet.
Oscar woke up from is spot on the couch. The cat jumped down and stretched before going up to the dog and head-butting him. He was making too much of a mess, and that mess as causing the humans to be loud. Pup stopped, wagging his tail and going to lick Oscar. The car swatted at his nose before he rubbed against Kasamatsu’s legs.
“At least one of use can keep him in line,” He sighed petting the cat.
Oscar meowed before going back to his nap. Pup sniffed at him again before hopping on the couch and lying next to him. Kise smiled softly as he watched them. He was glad that they got them as a set. He couldn’t imagine those two without the other. Kasamatsu was smiling too.
Kise kissed his cheek.
“I’ll clean up the rest,” He said referring to the mess.
“You say it like you had a choice in the matter.”
Kise laughed, “I promise I’ll get him to behave.”
“You better. So far Oscar is doing a better job then you.”
“Hey! I try.” Kise pouted.
This time Kasamatsu laughed. Kise continued to pout, but this time he put his hands on Yukio’s hips and pulled him close. He kissed him silencing his laughter. Kasamatsu kissed him back, smirking up into the kiss more than amused.
“You’re not distracting me,” Kasamatsu said as they broke from the kiss.
“I’m not trying to. Get your mind out of the gutter.”
Kasamatsu rolled his eyes before ruffling Kise’s hair. He smiled softly He planted one last kiss on his lips.
“Make sure you get it done.” He said before going back to the kitchen.
Kise sighed. He was kind of hoping that Kasamatsu would have forgotten with all of that. He sighed again looking at the destruction of their living room. But when he looked at the two animals sleeping on the couch, and thought back to the way Kasamatsu smiled when he was with them, it was worth it!
