1967(?) vs. 2015. Cupertino, CA. This shopping center, now called Cupertino Village, at the corner of Homestead Road and Wolfe Road was home to Safeway when it first opened in 1967. Whole Foods eventually occupied the premises in the late 1990s but didn’t do so well as the health food craze wasn’t mainstream yet. In the early 2000s, the Chinese grocery chain, 99 Ranch Market, moved in to take advantage of the large Asian population in the area and flourished (and continue to flourish). A Hewlett-Packard campus occupied the large space across the street on Wolfe. Now, Hewlett-Packard has moved out, the buildings razed, and Apple Computer is constructing its circular building as part of the Apple Campus 2 project. Cupertino, CA.
Special thanks to: hmdavid flickr stream for the 1967 photo. (Note: the 1967 date is approximate.)
