Open Starter For Cupid’s Curse
Loras had never particularly cared for balls as a general rule. The expectations, the dancing, the fact that he could never really dance with whoever he wanted. However, there was something different about this ball. The masks and costumes helped obscure everyone’s identity, including his own. It created a kind of magic that was as new as it was exciting. He smiled and turned to the person next to him, not knowing who they were and not particularly minding.
“I don’t believe I’ve ever been to a ball like this before, have you?” He wondered if they would be able to guess who he was. His mask and doublet were a dark, midnight blue, embroidered with flowers. He liked to think it was a clever play on his title, but maybe it was too obvious.
“I can’t hear you through that mask. Did you really have to choose one that covers your mouth?”
Roose gave the girl the look she deserved.
“When and if my words are meant for you, you will hear them.”
“My God, you could fit an entire circus under her pannier. How’d she even fit through the door?”
“I was just about to ask the same thing,” Loras replied. He did not feel the need to ask who he was speaking to- even with the mask, he could tell that it was Margaery. “We may never know- though I’d imagine that it wasn’t an easy task.” He couldn’t help laughing as he tried to imagine it. While some of the costumes and gowns people were wearing tonight were elegant and very well thought out, others very clearly weren’t. Fortunately, it seemed that they were in the former group, rather than the latter.

Lady Raven, they called her. And not in a kind way, he surmised by the scornful looks. Jealousy? Women of the court were prone to such things, he knew. But this one took it in stride, and was almost convincing in her attempt to ignore the jeering.
Her gown was highly inappropriate for court, though it looked exotic and well-made enough that it was probably considered courtly somewhere. Tywin swallowed an urge to throw his own gold and scarlet cloak over her, to cover her from the lewd stares of little lordlings, because of course his own gaze was anything but lewd. That creamy pale skin, bare from neck to the slight swell of her breasts.
A pathetic attempt for attention, he thought, scowling and raising his eyes back to her face. The mask, that gods-damned mask, was in the way.
Tywin had always prided himself on being an excellent judge of human nature, of what motivated a person, of what their price was. But without seeing a face, and all its subtle tells, he was rendered helpless in that aspect.
She was tiny in his arms, delicate, fragile almost to a fault, and he suddenly felt strangely protective of this woman who he knew nothing about.
He led her in sweeping steps across dance floor, ignoring the whispers that became not-so-whisper-like, and again he heard that curious epithet-- Lady Raven.
A swell in the music provided opportunity for an elaborate twirl, and after spinning the woman in his arms, he made sure to close the space between them as he resumed the basic waltz step.
“I’m afraid I’m not familiar with this House Raven, my lady.”

“Ser Loras of House Tyrell,” he introduced himself with a bow. After all, if she wasn’t going to hide her identity, then why should he? He smiled, unsure what to do now. After a moment, inspiration struck.
“I haven’t tried that one,” he said, pointing to one of the tarts on her plate. “Is it any good?” It wasn’t much of a conversation starter, but it was the best he could do. He picked up a plate and piled a few things onto it. The food at these balls were always delicious, including the cakes and other desserts. Idly, he wondered what sorts of things they ate in the Riverlands- maybe he’d ask that later.

Maybe it had been petty of him, ignoring her request to sneak off somewhere private, but he hadn’t enjoyed at all the looks she had been exchanging with his bastard. She had flounced off in a huff, leaving the ballroom alone and when he saw Ramsay considering the door which she had exited, Roose nearly saw red.
He pushed through the doors, ignoring the smirk on Ramsay’s face and caught up to Lady Isyla in no time at all. She had wanted to be caught, after all.
Roose reached out and grabbed her arm, spinning her around to face him, and then he took a step forward to push her back against the neat stone wall surrounding the gardens.
A puff of breath escaped her mouth at the impact, which was oddly pleasing to him. The playful grin she offered was assurance that he hadn’t done any damage, anyhow.
“My lady, I was quite disappointed that you left without a dance,” he said, pushing his hips against hers in pantomime of the particular type of dance he was thinking of.
