Mitigate adulterous thoughts with prayer & the prayer shawl..
The purpose of a prayer shawl is to give someone a tangible example of GOD's love & care. The shawl is made of soft yarn so the recipient can wrap up in it and feel GOD's arms around him or her. A prayer shawl is made with prayer. The maker of the shawl prays before, during, and after they work on the shawl.
How to Control Your Thoughts | Dovid Vigler
Picture: Kaiser Buns by sakuradapyon | via loftyangel
[27:47] How can I possibly control myself??! They just come at me?! Student raged & was promptly informed to go travel to a distant sage who will be able to answer your question. When he arrives in this township, he is forced to wait outside the man's house for 45min in the freezing snow storm. Outraged at how long it took the man to come answer the door, the shivering student blurted out, "Why did you take so long to come answer your door?!!" And the man replied, "I'm the master of my home & whom I wish to admit I allow, and whom I wish to deny I don't." Upon hearing this, the student quickly realized he had the answer to his question. [30:34]
My mind is my own castle, and I don't need to let in any toxic and leprous thought into my home!!!
CEO's get distracted by their assistants every 15 minutes [30:54] Vigler has an "On Air" sign he places outside his door to minimize disruptions to his day.
[31:51] A business coach once told him: "You have to adopt a bulletproof mindset."
It's one thing to be bulletproof in a warzone, but guess what?! Life is a warzone!! And the battlefield is in our minds.
And when we are protecting our assets, we need to ensure it is foolproof safeguard to guarantee you are not a victim but master of your castle—you don't need to allow in any vagabonds to wander into your home to make himself comfortable.
Q1: How would you feel if some stranger waltzed into your home, walked over to your fridge, and helped himself to a cup of coffee [or something]???
[32:46] Why would you allow that into your own mind?!
You cannot tolerate that in your own mind, you need to adopt a bulletproof mindset. And say, "Look! Thoughts can arise in my mind, and maybe GOD is planting those thoughts in your mind. Question is you are the decider whether you are going to dwell on those thoughts or not. [33:05]
And once you reach that decision, once you hit that moment of consciousness, you can never turn back.
Once you are aware, you can never turn back. You now are aware? OK! But from now on your thoughts are either going to be sinful or toxic, or it's going to a positive thought that is going to uplift you & light you up. And that's your decision remember?? [33:27]
It's the closest garment of the 3-soul garments; and it's going to have a profound impression upon you. [33:31]
Q2: We learned a few weeks ago from Manis Friedman that the reason Eve was able to convince Adam to eat of the tree of knowledge is bc they needed sin so they would have a task to make the world a holy place for HASHEM. So don't we likewise also need, just like they needed sin to turn the world holy? [33:59]
Vigler polls online audience for confirmation if they heard the Q2?
[34:06] In the same way we need the camel/pig/cow, for a challenge as a Beinoni to overcome it.. So rather than close the computer on the porn, if it comes to us we don't want to [garbled: change it?], so that we can overcome it. [34:25]
Vigler: 50/50 half the ppl heard you, half didn't, that's interesting.
RECAP: Aren't we put into this world in order to be tested? Aren't we put into this world to experience dysfunction & then to fix it.. This was actually a question that King David asked of GOD ALMIGHTY. [34:46] which was immortalized in Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah.
Well what happened?
What had happened was King David asked of GOD, "Why is it in our prayers we say, 'GOD of Abraham, GOD of Isaac, and GOD of Jacob,' in the Daily Amidah Prayer; [35:02] we don't say GOD of David?!
While praying, concentrate on the meaning of the words and remember that you stand before the Divine Presence. Before beginning the Amidah, take three steps back, then three steps forward. Recite the Amidah quietly — but audibly to yourself — while standing with feet together. My LORD, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare YOUR praise. - Bend Knees at "Blessed"; - Bow are "YOU"; Straighten at "LORD our GOD" [Bend Knees] Blessed are [Bow] YOU, [Straighten] LORD our GOD and GOD of our fathers, GOD of Abraham, GOD of Isaac and GOD of Jacob, the great, mighty and awesome GOD, exalted GOD, WHO bestows bountiful kindness, WHO creates all things, WHO remembers the piety of the Patriarchs, and WHO, in love, brings a REDEEMER [JESUS] to their children's children, for the sake of HIS Name. During the Ten Days of Penitence add: Remember us for life, KING WHO desires life; inscribe us in the Book of Life, for YOUR sake, O living GOD O KING, (YOU are) a Helper, a SAVIOUR and a shield. [Bend] Blessed are [Bow] YOU [Straighten] LORD, Shield of Abraham. YOU are mighty forever, my LORD; YOU resurrect the dead; YOU are powerful to save. In summer say: HE causes the dew to descend. In winter say: HE causes the wind to blow & the rain to fall. HE sustains the living with loving kindness, resurrects the dead with great mercy, supports the falling, heals the sick, releases the bound, and fulfills HIS trust to those who sleep in the dust. WHO is like YOU, mighty ONE! And who can be compared to YOU, KING, WHO brings death and restores life, and causes deliverance to spring forth! During the Ten Days of Penitence add: Who is like YOU, merciful FATHER, WHO in compassion remembers HIS creatures for life. YOU are trustworthy to revive the dead. Blessed are YOU LORD, WHO revives the dead. When the Chazzan repeats Amidah, Kedushah is recited here. We will hallow & adore YOU as the sweet words of the assembly of the Holy Seraphim, who thrice repeat "Holy" unto YOU, as it is written by YOUR Prophet: And they call one to another & say, (Cong. and Chazzan): "Holy, Holy, Holy is the LORD of HOSTS; the whole Earth is full of HIS glory." Chazzan: Those facing them offer praise & say, Cong & Chazzan: "Blessed be the glory of the LORD from its place." Chazzan: And in YOUR Holy Scriptures it is written thus: Cong. & Chazzan: The LORD shall reign forever; your GOD, O Zion, throughout all generations. Praise the LORD. YOU are holy & YOUR Name is Holy, and Holy beings praise YOU daily for all eternity. Blessed are YOU LORD, the Holy GOD. During the Ten Days of Penitence substitute: the Holy KING. You graciously bestow knowledge upon man and teach mortals understanding. Graciously bestow upon us from You, wisdom, understanding and knowledge. Blessed are You L-rd, who graciously bestows knowledge. Cause us to return, our Father, to Your Torah; draw us near, our King, to Your service; and bring us back to You in whole-hearted repentance. Blessed are You L-rd, who desires penitence. Pardon us, our Father, for we have sinned; forgive us, our King, for we have transgressed; for You are a good and forgiving G‑d. Blessed are You L-rd, gracious One who pardons abundantly. O behold our affliction and wage our battle; redeem us speedily for the sake of Your Name, for You G‑d are the mighty redeemer. Blessed are You L-rd, Redeemer of Israel. Heal us, O L-rd, and we will be healed; help us and we will be saved; for You are our praise. Grant complete cure and healing to all our wounds; for You, Almighty King, are a faithful and merciful healer. Blessed are You L-rd, who heals the sick of His people Israel. Bless for us, L-rd our G‑d, this year and all the varieties of its produce for good; and bestow (During the summer season say:) blessing (During the winter season say: dew and rain for blessing) upon the face of the earth. Satisfy us from Your bounty and bless our year like other good years, for blessing; for You are a generous G‑d who bestows goodness and blesses the years. Blessed are You L-rd, who blesses the years.
GOD answered him, and the reason is they were tested & you were not. "Well then," says David, "Test me my LORD." And David falls into a slumber, when he wakes up, he goes up to the roof & he gets a desire to go shooting. So he goes up & he sees a bird, and it was Satan in the form of a bird. And the bird flies on top of a teepee, and he misses the bird but he hits the teepee. And the teepee exposes a beautiful women, her name is Bathsheba, and she drew a Hallelujah from his lips. [35:35]
Alright, she became, she eventually married him.. right? And that was a sin at the time bc she was not eligible at the time, but it's good to be King bc he made her eligible. [35:51] lol oy vey
“Oy vey” is a Yiddish phrase that expresses dismay, exasperation, grief, or pain. It's often used in American Jewish culture and is related to the English phrase “oh woe”
It was like a retroactive eligibility.. it wasn't all very acceptable, but yeah that is what he did! I mean that is a fact. It's a fact of the matter, so David was tested & apparently he didn't do that well. [36:09]
Look it's complicated, the Talmud says anybody who says that David sinned is making an error! The Talmud says, but on the other hand, the context of the story is showing him that you don't want to be tested bc you barely even passed this one, alright? So what I'm saying to you Robert is [36:29]: That in the Torah, [Modah Ani] or morning prayers we say every morning, every single morning we say:
Closing Morning: Jewish Meeting Prayer GOD ALMIGHTY, GOD of our forefathers, to accustom us to the study of the Torah, and to make us cleave to YOUR commandment, do not bring us into sin, nor into transgression, or into iniquity, nor into temptation, or scorn, and may the evil inclination not have mastery over us. [36:58] Make us cleave to the good inclination and to good deeds, and compel our inclination to be subservient to You. Grant us this day and every day: grace, kindness, and mercy in Your eyes and in the eyes of all who behold us. In JESUS Name, Amen
In other words, we are saying to GOD "Please don't test me," we are saying: GOD don't test me! I'm not sure I'm going to pass.. [37:06]
In other words, what that means is like this, "We're already in this world," you already are being tested by virtue of merely being alive.
If you wake-up on this side of the grass, then your day will be filled with temptation & tests, and trials, and tribulation. That thought that arises in your head is already a TEST! That is a TEST! [37:28]
You don't have to be in an [adulterous affair] infidelity to be tested, I don't even know how to say it anymore, "You don't have to be in an improper relationship to say: Now! I'm going to fix it!?"
That might be a little too late at that point. lol [37:43]
You might have destroyed your family already! Don't go there!!!
Don't even go there, what you want to do is:
What you want to do is hold strong.. you don't want to be tempted. And you're already tempted 1000x a day already!!!
The moment you are aware of that thought, that is a temptation already!!!!! [38:02]
You don't have to say, O btw, there is one thing I want to say to you: "Tanya is a book of the struggling Jew right? The book of the Beinoni, there was another book that the Alter Rebbe wrote! It was called the book of Tzaddikim, the book of the successful Jews.
Think about it! [38:17]
The Beinoni has freedom of choice right? Does the Tzaddik have choice? If the difference between a struggling Jew & a successful Jew is this internal battle, the battle of titus, that you have two souls within you. You have an animal soul & you have a godly soul.. and in the case of the succesful Jew, the godly soul has dominated & entirely tamed the animal soul—and therefore there is no inner struggle; whereas in the Beinoni the battle rages within, and he is only able to control himself in thought/speech/action on a practical expression level. If that is the difference between a Beinoni & a Tzaddik?! [38:52]
Then the Beinoni has the freedom of choice between good/bad. But does the Tzaddik no longer have freedom of choice?
C01: But how can you say the Beinoni has choice? He is not master of his house yet—he still gets labelled as rasha in the moment he succumbs to sin/iniquity/temptation/desire. His ass is constantly being handed to him by the intruder in the house, bc he is not always in control of his thoughts/speech/actions since it is 50/50 chance the animal soul will overpower him.
[38:58] Good question, of course he is going have a choice between good & bad! When MOSIACH comes, we won't have an evil inclination anymore. Today we battled between good & evil, with the case of the Tzaddik or the coming of MOSIACH..
we battle between good & better..
[39:19] Now that's an interesting discussion, but that book was burning. That book was burned, the manuscript was lost: Why?! Apparently we didn't need the book. [39:29]
HASHEM heard him say that we were not worthy of that particular manuscript, right? In that book, apparently it said, the Alter Rebbe said (now I don't know for sure, I didn't see the manuscript, but others saw it or it was heard) that the Alter Rebbe writes in the Book of Tzaddikim that a Tzaddik is the one who no longer has an evil inclination right? He has tamed his horse! His HORSE!!! is the one that wins the Kentucky Derby!
His horse is not the one running amuck like a bull in a china shop, his horse is so trained! [39:57] That the horse is streamlined with the rider right? So he is no longer afraid that his horse is going to rebel.
So what is he going to do? This is no Killer Whale from Shamu, from you know Seaworld, this is a horse that has been trained by it's trainer alright.
[40:13] The TZADDIK is the ONE WHO engages with sin in order to fix it, bc HE knows HE is never going to be sucked into the quicksand. You do know the TZADDIK is JESUS the MOSIACH right?
But don't you dare try that at home if you are a Beinoni still.
If you try to engage with sin, you're going to slide so fast, you won't even know what hit you alright? And that's why in closing here folks, (there are so many comments I want to address in a moment).
In closing here, I want to say that you are the master of your household. The master of your castle, defend your thoughts with a bulletproof vest, you cannot control the thoughts that come into your mind, but you can control the thoughts that stay in your mind.
And that's the bottom line.
[40:53] And how can you actually control the thought that come into your mind? The third part of the shema, watch what you're looking at; guard your eyes. There's actually an organization I believe called, Guard Your Eyes.org - check it out. [41:11]
It's all about protecting your eyes from inappropriate & toxic images on the internet; you should take a look, but if you guard your eyes, you might not come into a problem!
And I want to say this, you know you probably heard about these religious Jews who don't want to sit next to a woman, on a bus or on an airplane. [41:30] Close quarters, probably don't want to accidentally have an inappropriate touch, or body part in the face..
I mean it's (aggh) a bit offputting, a little bit.
When you hear about a guy on a plane. Actually I read a story just yesterday, OMG it is an amazing story, you know if you fly El Al, El Al is a whole other experience. Minions going on, there are ppl spilling throughout the plane, you know the El Al pilot he's saying, "I'd like to wish you a welcome to Israel, to all our passengers, to those who are sitting down I'd like to wish you a happy X-mas, and to those who are standing I'd like to wish you a happy Hannukah." LOL right? It's quite an experience.. then she asks the passengers, "Sir, would you like your dinner?" and he says, "What are my options?" Yes or No.
LOL That's customer service El Al style right?
So sometimes s/o says "Could you move your seat? bc I can't sit next to a woman." [42:53] And it's like hello, why are you imposing your religious values on me? You know, buy three seats, what do you want from me??? Buy two seats, idk, buy the bulkhead, go firstclass idk; so it could be very offensive, as long as you know it depends on how they say it. Why are they doing this? Why are these ppl doing this???
[43:09] Maybe they can't handle it & they are trying to guard their eyes!
Maybe they are so sexually sensitized, now I know this maybe a little out of the box, just bear with me here. Look I'll give you an example here, I wouldn't have a barber or a massage therapist or a chiropractor..that is female.
Like [eeck] It's not appropriate, do you know what I mean?!
But when you have these teenagers who say "Yeah we go on camping trips, boys & girls together, and I dunno & we share everything like we share sleeping bags together.. What does that say about your relationship to your sexuality??? [43:49]
It says that a part of your sexuality is dead: That's what! It means that you're no longer getting excited about things that you should be getting excited about right?
And maybe if you didn't show it all out, then maybe there would a little more sensitivity there right? [44:02]
Anyways, what I'm trying to say is, it's not what you say but how you say it that matters.
It's sensitive topic here alright. But there is an amazing story here, which happened here maybe a few months ago, where a guy says to a women very innocently: You know, he was a Yeshiva Student. He says, "I'm sorry, do you mind switching seats or something?" You know go jump in a Lake, anyways the lady behind him say, "I'll switch with you… " El AL, fine right? But she said "I need you to do me a favour, you know I'm not religious, but my sister is a hostage in Gaza."
And I'd like for you to pray for her every single day. [44:43]
He says, "Deal! I'll pray for her everyday." Apparently this girl is one of those who were released this past chavez, it's a nice story you know, it's like an interesting story you know. [44:55]
Anyways, why am I saying this, bc maybe there is something to it, and I'm not condoning imposing your religious values on other people.. Not what I'm suggesting.
But what I am saying is that: Maybe it's not what you say but how you say it that matters more than anything..
And maybe we should be a little more careful of what we look at, and maybe just bc s/t is considered PG-13.. you have to ask yourself "Who are the ppl who are behind that decision??" What are the values of the ppl that determine that this is PG-13?
AND I look at it & I'm like SERIOUSLY???! This looks like PG-48 to me!
You know how did this become PG-13 right?
This is what you call the Disney Channel? Like seriously?? This is ridiculous We have to protect ourselves & what we see.
