I mean looooooooooook at those gorgeous curls. I can’t cope.

But not only the curls, I also loved Micky’s hair like this

I loved the sort of brushed out curls!!!! When it’s just wavy and free....it just suits his personality so much more than the horrible straight hair!!

I get so passionate about Micky’s hair. I literally have a #curlgasm tag on my blog and I’ve literally written big posts about his hair and his hair only.

Micky’s hair makes my heart happy!!! I’ve had a thing for curly haired boys for as long as I can remember (I think it started when LOTR came out and I had a big crush on Elijah Wood as Frodo with the dark curly hair...) I mean I just LOVE CURLS AND WAVES! And they suit Micky perfectly!!

Yes, I would 100% touch young Micky’s hair. Not old Micky, seeing as he doesn’t really have any hair, and also not ponytail!Micky. Or 80s Micky, because it was too fluffy. But 60s/early 70s Micky?? I would love to run my fingers through those curls. Actually, I tag my favourite pictures with #curlgasm if anyone wants to indulge!

I've been really curious about this. Is Micky's natural hair his little fuzzie wuzzies or his more Monkees in Paris era? Thank you, bby!

Hello!! I’m so sorry I’m only now getting to this, I’ve been at work all day and my internet has been playing up at home, arghhh.

ANYWAY you ask a very good question! I’m sure I heard someone say that Micky had a perm, but I don’t know if that was just speculation and I reallly don’t think that’s the case? When Micky was asked “where he got his hair” (when his curls first appeared) he said he just “let it grow”. Peter also stated that Micky’s curls were natural;

“People ask, “Why did Micky start curling his hair?” The truth is, he had been straightening it up until then. He looked more natural, and he was so much more natural inside his head. He really did find himself at that point.”

But I think maybe his hair in Monkees in Paris was pretty natural too? Like maybe it was either longer so it sort of weighed the curls down a bit, or maybe he just dried it differently or flattened it a little. Either way, his hair looked SO GOOD there.

See, there are definite curls/waves, so I reckon it was just a bit longer so it pulled them down a bit. I actually almost prefer his hair like that to the shorter curls, he just looks so flawless in that episode. But anyway…

Another reason why I think his curls are natural is his hair in the years that followed, right up to when he had that god-awful ponytail in the ‘90s. His hair was always curly (well…it was more like a fluffy fro-type thing, which was basically what happens when you brush curly hair - it goes sort of frizzy/fluffy. I know this because when I was 14 I….got a perm. I DON’T KNOW WHY EITHER. But it was awful.)

ANYWAY. His hair has always looked like brushed out curls (it actually looks like that in some of the second season episodes)

See, that’s pretty fluffy there too. But it definitely looks longer in Monkees in Paris so I think my theory could be correct.

So, to sum up, I think it’s all pretty natural - it’s just a case of length and how it’s dried. Micky’s poor hair suffered so much abuse; first when he was 10 on Circus Boy when they BLEACHED IT and then 10 years later when they straightened it to within an inch of it’s life on The Monkees. 

Ultimately, to me, I think this picture looks like Micky’s hair in it’s most natural state:

Look at that angel of perfection. His hair looks so perfect there I WANT TO CRY.
