Going to the police academy seemed a rather odd choice to Derek's family when no one was in the task force but it was what he wanted and nothing stopped him once his mind was set to something. He was fiercely dedicated and when he was hired in as a deputy it was as if all his dreams were coming true. The Sheriff was a no nonsense sort of man but Derek really liked him and thought there was a lot he could learn from him.
Once he officially obtained the job, his family had a huge party for him, stating over and over again how proud they were of him. They were a little worried, of course, being in law enforcement was a very dangerous line of work but Derek could more than hold his own. He learned to shoot guns when he was about eight years old, after all from his grandfather. He knew how to wield other weapons as well and frankly Derek was a little obsessed with them all.
Starting on his first day, Derek eagerly set up his desk, placing the picture frames of his family neatly along with everything else. There were already files stacked up in the center and his computer was already powered on. It was time to get down to work, he just needed to retrieve something from the front desk before he could get down to business. It was here he encountered some kid who nearly stumbled onto the ground but Derek managed to catch his arm just in time. "Hey, watch it there," Derek said with a small laugh. "But you're in the right place if you get an injury, we have a lot of people on hand to help with that. You're the Sheriff's kid, aren't you? Miles?"
"Okay Okay, Der I have to tell you something but please dont hit me."
"Telling me not to hit you, makes me want to hit you more. But speak."
{Just ignore Scott's face there xD}
"Stiles." He told him with a soft voice. "I trust you more than anything. More than anyone. I probably shouldn't. I should just give up on trusting people, but I can't. Because.... Because you make me feel safe."

Spent the rest of the day dressed as a maid
Derek looked down at the maid’s uniform, cursing under his breath. “I’m pretty fucking sure maids don’t have fishnet stockings on and garters.” Fuck. He was in a skirt and every time he moved it was — Fuck. “I hate you. I literally want to shred your skin into confetti.”
