R (Joe) Currie for his students and two examples were built by Cinque Ports Aviation Limited at Lympe Aerodrome in 1937. Its curious name came about whilst Currie was building his first aircraft, asked what it was ro be called he answered - Call it what you bloomin well like - WOT Both of the original aircraft were destroyed in 1940 by a German air raid on Lympe, but in 1957 Currie was commissioned to build two more by Viv Bellamy of the Hampshire Aeroplane Company. This aircraft was the first of the pair, it was subsequently sold to Westland chief test pilot Harold Penrose who conjured up the name Airymouse (Cornish dialect for a bat). The aircraft has been in storage for many years following the passing of its owner, when acquired by Steve Slater in December 2017, after light restoration it flew again in 2018, prior to a more major restoration project.
