Like, Hidan's whole thing is "Kill thy neighbors" right? As far as Hidan knows, Itachi did all that and more. He's like, neighbor killer #1, so even if it wasn't respect, I bet it'd be enough to get him curious.
Itachi would hate him tho. He goes against everything he believes in. He would not appreciate the questions and curiosity. He's probably put him under more than a few genjutsus.
