A true Renaissance woman. The. Mother of two of the legendary artists of our time, is herself a legend and queen. Debbie Allen and Phylicia Rashad were meant to become what and who they became. Their mother lead by example. Dr Vivian Ayers Allen is a poet, writer, scholar, pianist, teacher, author and cultural activist. SHE earned a Pulitzer Prize nomination for her POETRY (the book Spice of dawn). Studied the Mayan culture in Mexico, and worked for NASA. During a space mission in the 1960s, astronauts read her poetry as images were shown of the FLIGHT (the poem was Hawk). What a woman. She 94 years old. Now, at 94 she still continues to give (back). She leads Brainerd Institute Heritage in Chester, South Carolina, where her Preschool literacy program "Workshop at Open Fields" are held every summer. Right now is a summer program there.
