How I imagine Lagiacrus in mtg. Definitely not Nezahal
Custom card I made for Magic the Gathering.
When the Necrobloom just isn't doing it for me as a Commander (Necrobloom transitions into making making Zombie tokens, I'd prefer if it continued to produce Plant tokens.) Art was commissioned from @markerslinger
Version with my own art:
made a sultai explore commander as per the request of a friend. ty to everyone who helped me balance it and make it compliant w the rules. (note to anyone interested: this hasn't been playtested, so i might post an updated more balanced version)
So, about two years ago, I made a bunch of custom cards for some of my friends, and well, today I decided to revamp them a bit. I present to you the first Custom-Commander card for my friend Lucas.
(These were made with the aid of Lucas.)
Custom commanders #10: Let’s all have some fun...
Welcome to my tenth blog-post of a custom commander. Apologies for not posting one on Tuesday, I simply forgot that I would be posting two so close to one another in time frame. Either way, it’s time for another exciting Daedric Prince commander, based on the work of Bethesda!
Sanguine is the daedric prince of hedonism and debauchery, and rules over the darker, sinful nature of humans. He is more of a prankster, although his main goal is to drive people into a sinful lifestyle.
As with all the other Daedric Princes, I wanted to maintain my Theros god style. Here, I decided that Sanguine would be wanting you to have fun. Perhaps the biggest obstacle between a person and a lot of fun is putting too much thought behind it, so I wanted him to require having a small number of cards in hand. I decided that requiring two or fewer cards would fit great. (remember that it’s three or more that he turns OFF from creature form, not on.)
Next, I wanted to craft a powerful that supplements such a low hand size but still allows plays. Red’s new impulse mechanic works perfectly, and as such Sanguine will help you Act on Impulse every turn. Of course, this felt REALLY overpowered on an indestructible enchantment to help just one person, and in the style of Sanguine wanting to bring everyone to his level, it’s a global effect for everyone. Of course, it’s likely only yours designed to capitalize on such the low curve, particularly in commander. Just remember to play some cards from your hand too to keep him active.
Perhaps my favorite part of the card, though, is his P/T with his mana cost. A low curve deck may easily dump this turn 4 and swing with it turn 5. Additionally, since this is red we’re talking about, those cheap red cards are likely either aggro creatures or burn spells, meaning an opponent’s life total may already be decently low, allowing for a quick kill. This may be more difficult in multiplayer, however, where multiple life totals of 40 may not go down so easily. Fortunately, the party Impulse effect means that you likely won’t have a target on your back and you can simply whittle opponents down evenly and alpha strike on later turns, playing a sort of mediator for the game.
I hope you enjoyed today’s article. Also, today, I started working on something really special and I hope to have it done quickly, although Witcher 3 will likely get in the way of that. See ya!
