Whales in the Great Salt Lakes. Sounds like a stupid idea on its own, and it kinda was. This funny story dates back a lot farther than you think, to 1890 to be precise.

My first HO Custom; a Roundhouse 36' Billboard Reefer customized for Professor Whickham's Whale Oil co. Repainted from an N.K. Fairbank's boxcar in poor cosmetic shape. Added alternate trucks (Fox trucks over arch bars) and a custom brake staff. Only other changes since this photo were adding new rust-painted couplers and air hoses. Weathering is a long-term project.

I took a lot of pictures of my Christmas train project, because there’s a loooot of detail on each piece! And for fun, I am showing each one next to a stock, unpainted train, so you can see what changes I made! I tried to work with the existing colors, partly to save on potential scuffs, and partly to challenge myself! All of the swirly details are sculpted on; I tried to highlight them by adding paint!
